The highlands must of had one of their snowiest weeks in a while... constant atlantic flow with uppers below -1c for much of the time, some very large snowfalls during the weekend and now this band that is staying below -3c 850mb's the whole way through and there is VERY heavy snow falling again there... tomorrow is expected to be cold again up there with continuous snowfall above 300m for much of the area whilst Thursday should give a large melt, and then cold and showery AGAIN on Friday/Saturday... makes up for the dreadful, dreadful autumn snow-retention wise up there

Just got back up the road from Edinburgh, A9 was very icey but it was only snowing at the drumochter summit on my journey. A fairly respectable 13cm of snow here so just enough to make the driveway a pain in the ar*e! hopefully an interesting week ahead with more of the white stuff

The GFS chart really does show the potential for very strong winds. However what I'm interested in most is the snow and -5C or even lower uppers will be over Scotland as very strong winds with lots of precipitation on the back end of the low. This could bring a lot of snow and not just to higher ground. I actually expect some lying snow again here in Glasgow by Friday morning and if there's enough precipitation then we could have more than the 5cm we had on Monday.

You are mad if you don't think they show very strong winds, crazy infact.

Just watch the forecasts tomorrow evening and be careful.

There chart shows gusts to 90mph through the Scottish west coast possibly more.

Am pretty sure this storm will be upgraded by Meto with more areas receiving Amber warnings. Possibly deserves Red in areas.

More detail popping up in Model Thread and also Atlantic Storms Thread

Some stunning pressure gradient drops as this low is cannon balled in from the Atlantic on a Jet Stream at full tilt.

Some charts displaying wind profiles, the Spitzenwind one from Wetterzentrale displays 'peak' profiles.

Following this very cold air drawn down across the country. One to watch closely on the models..
