Some very strong winds today. I stay in Ayrshire. Had several gusts well over 100 I would imagine. consistent 70mph+

Just saw Helensburgh on the news. Coastal car park flooded with the seas incredibly rough!

Look at Stornoway with the tide heights being dragged out from the eastern face of the Western Isles, in comparison to West Coastline of Scotland where the tides are rising as the surge is being forced increasingly higher on western facing coasts.

We're not even in the effected area, but several wheelie bins have just been blown over!

They don't issue weather warnings for flying wheelie bins :)

Oban sustained winds of 63mph, gusting 74mph

I expect much higher gusts will have been reported also in between taking the hourly obvs.

Gusting into to mid 70's here on the coast.

Breaking News

Scottish Hydro say thousands of people are without electricity in Argyll and the Western Isles. The company has 500 staff working to restore supplies. In some cases, the wind is making it too dangerous for them to attempt to climb electricity poles.

Already the roof slate count is mounting up! The downside to really cool and major storms... The damage that needs to be repaired.! :nea:

It's turned very dark here. My Christmas lights run from a light sensor and they've just turned on.

Other areas of Leeds are reporting heavy rain according to the comments on a photo from Look North:

EDIT:

It's sleeting or snowing very wet snow. Sky TV just went off as well.

just been sent home early from my voluntary job. Variable message signs here all saying 'avoid travel'

One hell of a squall rattled through here at 11am , never seen wind like it. Rain was horizontal , car alarms going off , had to hold the window shut as i thought it was going to come loose! :o

What a Beauty/Beast http://en.allmetsat.com/images/meteosat_europe_central.php

Millport tide heights rising significantly in Western Scotland now, reports that the river Clyde is also rising. With the river already at height any tidal 'blocking' isn't going to be great for the city.

It's meant to hit the Western Isles and SW Scotland around noon onwards, which it seems to be doing, and then across the Central Belt, reaching Edinburgh around 3pm, but it is seeming a bit earlier than expected in the East - still approx 1.5 hrs until the worst of it hits us in Edinburgh, they were reckoning. I'm just waiting to see what happens.

_57200492_dsc_0556.jpg Ive never seen the clyde that high before tbh.

That is unreal! I am expecting some severe gales here myself this afternoon but if I seen the Tyne fill like that I would be VERY concerned...

More usually spelt "bawbag" :-D

Someone in the Scotland thread posted a pic of Stirling Council's official tweet carrying the hashtag HurricaneBawbag, which is hilarious!
