Can't see anything popping up really for this neck of the woods, I think the LEVEL 1 from ESTOFEX is because of the sheer and unstable set up we are under the influence of.

On top of that, the tornado in Spalding yesterday has probably tipped them to put out a warning.

I may be completely wrong, but I cannot see anything interesting popping up today, I cannot even see some storms popping up. If there is though i'll be the first to hold my hand up, after chasing them of course :p

Scotland the place to be for t-storms today I think:

Valid: 22/06/2012 09:00 - 23/06/2012 00:00

Headline: ... THERE IS A RISK OF THUNDERSTORMS FORECAST...

post-1052-0-38033300-1340355778_thumb.jp

Synopsis

Upper low over N England will drift north, with attendant surface low pressure, with associated wrap-around occlusions, overspreading Scotland and N England.

... CENTRAL and S SCOTLAND, NE ENGLAND ...

Tongue of moist air being drawn over the North Sea in across Scotland and NE England by the Nern UK low, overlaid by increasingly cold mid-levels, as upper low/shortwave drifts north into Scotland - will help create steep lapse rates here, aided by insolation. Airmass here will further destabilise through day, as vorticity max and mid-level dry slot streaming in on northern flank of shortwave increases PVA/forced ascent ... so heavy showers and thunderstorms appear likely to develop. Vertical shear looks fairly weak, with little turning of winds through the troposphere, so thunderstorms with severe criteria are unlikely. However, speed shear should be enough to help storms organise into multicell/line segments capable of producing strong wind gusts, hail and torrential downpours with localised flooding

Heavier rain arriving here now and can be seen clearly on the radar. Some sferics in the Edinburgh area but here the temp is still only 12.7°C so not that warm. Have had 3.6mm since midnight (so my rain gauge tells me...hmmm).

LP centre appears of be over Sunderland at the mo but this is so hard to see - it is somewhere there....

Further to my opening post on the last page, the grey skies have cleared somewhat to allow a few brighter spells, although no proper sun. Nick's warning area a little too far north for here but I'll keep my fingers crossed for a surprise :)

Rainfall very heavy now and appears quite convective in nature although there has been no sun all day: continuous grey cloud has been present.

Now up to 4.7mm since midnight - still suspicious of why this is so low.

Has been a shower here but most of the heavier stuff has went south or east of us or north or other way lol (for now)

A squall line appears to be developing from Hornsea to around Sheffield. We are under it here and the rain has been torrential.

Lots of sferics from Edinburgh to West Lothian according to NW radar.

Storms now breaking out in the Forth Valley too. Good day in Central Scotland methinks.

Here the rain has died off a bit, not stopped though. You can see the Pennines having an effect and the rain shadow eating into the precipitation to the east of here. West of the Pennines the rain rate remains unchanged.

It's gradually pushing away NNE'wards.

Plenty more rain to come from this system for NW and Northern areas.

Quite a bit of thunder and lightning around at the mo - albeit not overhead.

All the electrical activity has been in Scotland all day and has been moving West and pivoting around the Edinburgh area. It is currently in an arc from Berwick to Oban approximately.

Here the rain has finally stopped and it has brightened up. It is also quite windy but there is no sign of anything convective tonight.

Estofex have jinxed us today I feel!

Heavy rain all day in Leeds today, a truly miserable day. I'm now in Cumbria and its even more torrential here!

Anyway, it looks like that interesting convection over the borders is pivoting towards Newcastle - pity I'm not there! It looked pretty threatening from the A69 around an hour ago.
