Its building on its southern flank for sure and its heading a SSW'ly direction so you might get some if it heads far enough inland. It certainly not heading from West to East or even North East to South West so we have got a chance but it will be a very slow process for sure.

Is this a trough or something though? I hope it does head here because there is not an awful lot on the radar after it.

Word of warning - the radar has it has sleet a fair way inland.. and what's falling in Durham atm is snow grains. Temp -0.1°C, DP -0.7°C.

If it's not going to be proper snow, I'd rather it didn't make it!

The ppn forming off Scotland picked up on the radar last night at 10.30, has moved south into NE England. I have almost 2" here and it looks like the heavier stuff will hit in about an hour. great for the journey to work. However is still 0c, so there should be plenty of grip.

Looks like about 3-5cm fell last night but I haven't measured it yet before anyone jumps on me :p

The radar looks good for another centimetre or two I feel.

The south of the region always seems to miss out in the setups for some reason!

The next shower will hit you in about half an hour, but I'm surprised you haven't got a covering yet as it looks like you had a showery night from the radar!

7th snow lying day of the winter on it's way (Dec 1, 3, 6, 7, 14; Jan 14, 15) and 8th since July 1st (October snow).

That's much better than last year's 4 snow lying days already! So, it's not been abysmal by any means, and we're only half way through, currently on about 120% of the average regarding snow cover.

Starting to snow again, expecting to add at least a cm with this next band.. everything is adding on nicely now.

I think this year has been average at least for snow, two significant snow events this year, both from the North Sea of course. Often we seemed to wait until late January for snow - I think we did in 2004, and that year ended up quite snowy.

I'll never learn - I should forget frontal events, and never doubt the North Sea! Snowing again here.

Morning all.

Looks nice out there, doesn't it?

Not convinced a huge amount was added from 1am till now - running the radar back nowhere had anything that heavy. But looking good for the next 20 minutes or so. Wish it could hold off for 40 minutes as it'd be great to walk my daughter to school with falling snow. :)

Bar 2009-10 and 2010-11, this would rank pretty highly in the 21st century scheme of things, and has plenty of life in it still.

Snowing lightly here again, -0.1c.

It seems quite slow moving and it's only just light here, so maybe you will be- I'm starting to walk in 10 mins, so I should have some in my mates house.

Mind you, it's not quite as nostalgic and momentous when a bunch of whiny teenagers, still angry at the facts they got up 10 minutes ago, school is open despite the 5cm deluge, and they have loads of coursework for IT, walk through the streets of Washington.

I still love it though!

After this line, anyone any hope for more showers this morning?

I think it looks a bit quieter, but there are still plenty of showers out there.

It looks quite quiet Nick, but as last night had shown, intensity can always increase.

Today will be the best today for convection this week, but then tomorrow and Thursday look bloody freezing with a chance of some isolated showers, and Friday/Saturday potentially a frontal+convective snowfest! (potentially!)

River Wear could easily be in danger of freezing in parts by Saturday.
