As i drove home from work tonight could see some big cb's about - have lain bed watching flickering skies for last hour, had to get up and have a look at the radar... doesn't look like much doing?

Hi - newbie just joined. Love this site! All quiet in the Mid Sussex microclimate - aka 2 miles south of East Grinstead - despite being bang in the squall line according to current radar. This area was wiped out by flash flooding from the local stream on 20th July 2007 at approx 11.15am following 55mm of rainfall falling in 45 minutes bewteen 9.30 and 10.15am.Given current conditions ref parched ground/weather, we have had the flood defences up since last week expecting the worst - but apart from about 2 hours of heavy but not torrential rain, including one lightning flash and a couple of rumbles, on friday afternoon....we've had absolutely nothing else! Our last flood alert was Xmas Eve last year...and I can;t rememebr our last rainfall! For those of you waiting expectantly - I'm very happy to redirect anything your way!xxx

Welcome aboard piggy place! Enjoy all the posts and posting! Edited by Polar Bear

A nice big gap in the band of showers which have Sheffield's name on it.

I have the feeling that, although showers will be widespread today, the Nottingham/Lincolnshire storm magnet may be powering up by midday. I may get myself that way after work although to be honest looks like main activity will be 12z-18z which means too early. Maybe I will see something out of the office window.

00z Camborne and Herstmonceux radiosonde ascents showing a readily unstable atmosphere this morning, so expect widespread heavy showers and storms across the UK and Ireland today, adjust the starting temp on the skew-ts with the max temps expected in the low 20s and we are looking at abundant CAPE today:

Still in the NSC here but had a lovely very heavy rain shower last night as I fell asleep (around 11pm). No lightning as far as I know but everything outside still wet.

Its quite windy at the moment gusting near 40km/h and once again theres a lot of shower clouds developing around me.

I would put it like this for my area today:

Heavy rain chance: 90%

Thunder chance: 5%

This is based on experience in shower setups.

Historically the Bristol area does better out of yesterday's setup than today's as westerly winds drive them along the Mendips and clear slot appears inland of the Bristol Channel. But time will tell and there are some hefty cells already out west so perhaps a few surprises. One things is for sure, it feels like late summer/early autumn out there this morning, much fresher!

Oh is the flow from the west today then? Oh dear. i doubt anything will form over the sea for me then if that's the case.
