The cell currently moving across the Yorkshire Dales looks a bit of a monster! I wonder if there is any severe weather occurring under that?

Ha ha. I was in Italy three weeks ago and did Milan and Turin. Imagine how I felt when I saw that 2 weeks after I returned they had severe thunderstorms and tornadoes.

Can see dark clouds to my west.

Good luck

Yes the clouds in South Wales at the moment look really interesting, a disturbance out to sea on the SW approaches is giving a lot of lightning returns at present.

Next few hours will be interesting to see how things develop.

This is the cell that hit me.

It made a bunch of flashes with some loud thunder, and unleashed the heaviest rainfall I have seen all year, with a bit oh hail mixed in too. There were some pretty strong winds before it hit.

I would if I could. This time it was shredded so badly the sun didn't even go in. A bit of rain to dampen the pavement that was it. Another one being shredded now.

Seems to be a broken line of convection from SW England up to the North York Moors looking at vis satellite, storms in places along the line - particularly across N Yorks and few storms down across Gloucestershire/Somerset. Think this line maybe the cold front - be interesting to see if storms continue along the front as it edges further east.

I think the Cold Front went through Wiltshire late morning, the fax chart for 0600 showed the cold front with a trough either side of it. So the SE storms tis morning were on one trough, the sporadic showers that affected the West Country late morning were the front and the storms breaking out to the West now are on the 2nd trough.

I may be wrong though! But the temperature dropped from 24c to 21c around lunchtime despite a clearance to unbroken sunshine while the win switched from SSW to W.

Just had a downpour here but no T+L. Lovely line of cells through Cornwall and extending towards South Wales.

I have thought about storm chasing this evening but I would need to be rather savvy in order to get ahead of one of these things. They are moving far to fast to chase.

I was thinking about chasing too, but the cell I have my eye on seems to be heading straight for me at the moment!

Starting to see some darkness on the horizon now.

Wouldn't mind being on the North East coast now watching that big cell heading out to sea. It now has rain rates of around 200mm/hour on the radar!

Noticed further signs of mid level instability appearing in the past hour or so over London...this coinciding with those cells approaching from the South....round 2?? :D

Another huge cell is approaching from the south, just beyond the border.

It has made a decent amount of lightning strikes too, fingers crossed that it reaches here!

The cells don't seem to be holding there energy and appear very pulse like. The main area of sferics is in that band across the SW - but this must be behind the CF if what we are seeing is the CF?

I bet that 200mm/hr is hail, there is a possibility of quite large hail in any stronger storms today.
