Awesome downpour!  Really dramatic in a plastic roof conservatory!

Ditto - I have the same type of roofing here, so can expect the same when it arrives

Afternoon all

Just been for a walk on and around Reigate Heath with the children and the dog. When we got up to the viewpoint by the windmill we could see the rain heading in from the south west. We carried on and had just allowed ourselves to think we might beat the rain back to the car when it really started to hammer down and then there was a vivid white flash of lightning. Before we had time to say 'that felt close' the thunder erupted above us. Daughter screamed, dog ran around, 16 year old looked vaguely interested in the outdoors for a moment and the youngest started laughing. Shortly afterwards I banged my head on an overhanging tree branch as I stood up having stopped to put on waterproof trousers. The things I do to provide entertainment.

No more thunder after that, and the rain is gentle now and it is again brightening up. Fun whilst it lasted, all 3 seconds of it (no sniggering at the back, please!)

Impressively darkening skies to the west. I'm expecting heavy rain soon, but probably no T&L. :)

Sorry Meggy, it was directly overhead and completely unexpected. Strangely no thunder!

WOW Fact for today.

Atomic Snow

Snow storms are just plain annoying, but what is amazing is that a single snowstorm can drop up to 40 million tons of snow, which carries the energy equivalent to 120 atom bombs - Yikes! We're just thankful that snow can be a lot less destructive than an atom bomb...

In ten minutes, a hurricane releases more energy than all the world's nuclear weapons combined!

It's one of the many things I love about Mother Nature and the variety of the British weather. You wait all summer long for a half decent thunderstorm, and when it seems all hope is lost BOOM, the back end of October produces a day like this. 3 thunderstorms in one day and if the sferics on my radio are to believed, another one not far away. Just back from the supermarket - heavy rain and very blustery, but no thunder and the sun is out againPosted Image Should be the last of the downpours to give a drier and quieter end to the day till the general rain arrives tomorrow morning around dawn period

Gone very, very dark...I think the 'thunder' I though I heard must've been rap; it's not easy to tell, sometimes.

Wet wet wet here, no thunder or storms though, temp has fallen a couple of degrees too.  Very dull and dark with it.

So after the met office predicting thunder all day, here in Brighton we were left with torrential rain for an hour! Otherwise it's been bright and sunny...... Just shows how much the 'professionals' know......,,
