Lottie, some of those photos are extraordinary, almost surrealist, amazing stuff, thanks for posting.

Next Sunday Dylan Thomas would have been 99 years old. Cerys Matthews on her 6Music show at 10am that day is going to be featuring this plus a Robert Plant interview. Not strictly weather-related but if you know the works of Mr T there is plenty of weather in there, and we will be in Pembrokeshire for a week from Saturday so this is right on the must listen list.

Looks like we might get some gales off the Atlantic/Irish sea border when we are away, perfect weather for the tine of year, wild, insistent, taking the tops off the waves and throwing them inland, pushing the woodsmoke back down the chimney, rattling the guttering, stirring the ghosts of the male voice choirs from years back, the lost at sea tombstones in the village graveyard wet with the ocean again, shining, their memorials full of life, sound, spray, and their letters deep and clear, the words alive, in memory of, pushing out, speaking, touching, singing to us all. What sacrifices were made by those lost and those left behind.

again wet and very windy

Posted Image

low goes across us then causing a north westerly flow

Posted Image

pulling in cooler uppers

then at 240

Posted Image

second low incoming which needs a watch

as could cause some problems if that goes further south

Posted Image

certainly would be cooler

also this could pull the azores high towards the atlantic

so some interesting model watching coming up

Hornets are actually pretty docile unless they are by their nest, the only thing is they tend to come out in the evenings and are attracted to light sources like moths, so if a window or a door is open they will let themselves in.

I thought it might be a hornet but wasn't too sure. It was just crawling all over that post minding its own business.

Raining again here, can hear it against the window -very heavy!

Yes, as long as you don't get too near their nest...http://www.halsteadgazette.co.uk/news/halstead_news/10717512.Halstead__Paramedics_called_after_school_walk_ends_in_disaster/

I agree to an extent Leigh, but tonights firework display here was planned as a special one off to celebrate the re-opening of our local outdoor Lido facility following its recent refurbishment.

http://www.hillingdon.gov.uk/article/27561/Fireworks-to-light-up-Hillingdon-skyline

Sussex, on the other hand, is renowned for it's spectacular parades, bonfires and firework displays this time of year, and long may that tradition last. Posted Image

Fair enough BB. It's good to celebrate with fireworks for a specific reason. But take for example Southend on Sea. They have a firework display every weekend, and that started two weeks ago. IMO that's far to early to celebrate firework night... Edited by LeighD

No thunder here today and the rain only came through in a squall late afternoon but it left behind an impressive double rainbow. Too mild for late October though, yuck..Anyone know what the big bee type insect is? It was about an inch long!

They are some of the most brilliant photos I've seen. Just watched the programme about Turner - you captured what he saw all those years ago.

again looks like heavy rain again

Better start getting used to it John:

Forecasters have warned the bad weather Britain witnessed on Saturday and Sunday could continue over the next three or four weeks, with above average rainfall expected in many parts. The torrential rain and strong winds seen over the weekend are a result of unusually warm weather for this time of year and the wet conditions are unfortunately set to remain.‘In the next two weeks it looks to be generally wetter than average,’ said Tim Thorne, a Met Office forecaster. ‘November’s a fairly wet month anyway, with an average monthly rainfall of 50 to 100mm in many areas. It will probably be over 50mm this year.’ The forecast will come as particularly bad news to residents of Hayling Island in Hampshire who witnessed a mini tornado on Sunday morning.

Morning all,

Looks to be a mainly dry day today as any heavy rain stays to the west of our region but showers or longer periods of rain at times, interspersed with some drier spells, look likely for the rest of the week. Temperatures certainly look to remain very much on the mild side though, as for the great majority of the time winds will be coming from a southerly point.

The upper trough to our SW will gradually start to shift further east and align itself SW/NE across us, come the end of the week, with high pressure over C.Europe gradually edging away east too.

[Quoting Tom above. Had managed to fudge my quoting issues by toggling the BBCode Mode button, but that's not even working now. Posted Image ]

The upper trough moving over us might tie in with the very deep low that's forecast to be over us on ECM, GEM and GFS models early next week. Whether a major blow will follow depends on location / depth and where it hits peak intensity (if it happens at all of course) Posted Image

Morning all,

Not a very pleasant morning here but as I'm meeting one friend for coffee this morning, another at lunchtime and seeing a third friend this afternoon I'm hardly going to notice the weather...oh and I'm squeezing in a couple of hours work before I enjoy a beef casserole and dumplings which are being cooked for me tonight Posted Image

There have been some reports on Facebook of a 'mini tornado' in MK yesterday....it didn't happen Posted Image

.....there was some strong wind with thunder and hail, oh and the rainbow...
