Good morning @Maz 🙂

Thank your understanding on Reverse SAD. I appreciate that not many folk do understand my craving for darkness. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a bit of sunshine, but I also like my quota of darkness as well, and sadly I don’t get that at this time of year.

This year has been a particularly tough and challenging one for me, mainly because June (from an IMBY perspective) was more or less none stop sunlight. Admittedly there were a couple of thunderstorms that made life a lot easier; but on the whole it felt like it was just none stop overhead glaring sunlight with no escape for me.

Thunderstorms appear to give you the same relief in summer as snow does to me in winter.  Dingy grey suddenly replaced by bright white as if by magic.  Before I understood SAD I used to go hill walking, climbing and skiing in the snowy Highlands/Snowdonia/Lake District as many weekends as possible.  It was the “drug” that got me through.  Can’t do it with work/ family etc now though.  Maybe you need to take up caving in summer?!!

Funny you should say that @Maz… I’m very much one of those folk who thrives on his own company.

I fully get where you’re coming from with the idea of caving… I swear I should have been born a bat or a mole… Or some other darkness loving creature. Lol 😂 👍🏻

I tried roasting them for the first time a couple years ago - they went almost black on the outside (which I’m told is normal) and they looked kinda awful but they tasted incredible.

I suspect...just suspect that roast sprouts drizzled in garlic and a smattering of Parmesan  may....only may have taken us off topic slightly...to a better place though without a doubt!

They don’t need long - around 25 minutes is more than enough in a fairly hot oven. So good 😊

Cool, do you use yours a lot? Debating whether or not to get one, need to try a few things from one first

I am always using mine - don't know how I'd manage without it now. 🙂

Far more energy efficient than an oven, and versatile too.

Well folks, tonight is that auspicious night/twilight (or whatever you want to call it) that I have actually noticed it getting darker at the evening end of the day. 😁👍🏻

Since the solstice on the 21st of June, I’ve been looking ever so hard for the shortening of the days… The mornings have been getting darker for a little while now, but this evening I have actually noticed the other end of the day getting more dusky, earlier. 😁👍🏻

I know this sounds crazy, but this now feels like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders! But such is my summer SAD this year.

So cheer up oh fellow cold and dark lovers, as there is darkness at the end of the tunnel. 😁👍🏻

According to the time and date website which is an excellent find if you want to monitor sunrise and sunset times along with degrees of 'night', here we have to wait until 3 August for the first day when 'night' reappears.

It isn't until then I start to notice light loss more notably, a good 3 weeks or so to go before then.

However the often cloudy evenings we've endured recently is making for quite early dusks, those heady light evenings early-mid June seem a distant memory.

Doesn't have to be wet. Love a walk in frosty sunny weather with the crunchy leaves under foot and a nice hot flask of coffee. 🙂

Shame that type of weather happens so rarely in the UK, it’s usually grey grey grey, blowing a hoolie and those lovely leaves are all a sodden slushy mess underfoot. But it’s nice to dream 😂

Dude if this happened those of us with winter SAD would be a lot happier!!! Sun yes please!! Cold I can dress up for so don't mind it. It's the dank clouds that are depressing.

I'm reminded of an interesting thread discussing winter a few years ago; whilst we like the idea of winter in its purest sense; cold, crisp & blue skies with a pale sun. However, its usually grey, wet & miserable......

The first proper ‘night’ occurs here around the 28th/29th July.
