Shame it wasn't a touch less marginal. We'd have had a lot of snow by now at lower levels.

Don't go in the model forum, it never snows in there ;)

Still some heavy precipitation around for parts of Yorkshire

Untitledy0r9d.png

I've put it up with the precip type off so you can see where the heavier bursts are

Well the 'blob' pepped things up here and has put a fresh covering over the slush! It's now dark so I'd imagine temps only moving in 1 direction....... it's going to be like glass out there by midnight!!!!

Can't believe how incompetant they are, only had to look at the gfs which clearly showed this precipitation lasting all day today.

Yes I know HC, its been showing for a week at least only downgrading slightly for others outside our area nearer the time. I think GFS has been exceptional recently in its new form. I have a habit of supporting the professional forecasters as they are always on a hiding to nothing BUT I feel last nights forecasts suggesting sleet and rain in areas really were pee poor, roads near me were atrocious which resulted in a load of minor accidents and one major life threatening road accident  which really should have been forecast more accurately or at least forecast with more a caveat that things could be significantly worse than current thinking blah blah

Well, just got back from working in Liverpool, was just starting to snow in earnest when I left at 7.00 am, and apparently has snowed non-stop since until about 5 minutes ago. There's a good 4 inches, maybe more, and all side roads are extremely tricky, and that's near Huddersfield town centre. Further out and higher up it's a lot worse. M62 was fine though, spray and crazy unnecessary braking much more of a danger than anything cold related. It looks like West Yorkshire was pretty much the sweet spot in the end, not the Midlands. Poor them :).

What I'd give for that extra couple of 100ft altitude, coming down heavy now and settling, but only accumulating at 1/3 of what it could be doing.

This reminds me of march 2013 in a lot of ways. The first day of the snow was much like today except less intense and settling less too. Then overnight the snow turned light and powdery and piled right up. It has turned powdery here now so I am getting excited about what may happen by morning!

Hopefully the level of 100% accumulating snow should lower as we head into this evening.

Aye, and not sure it's done yet, latest radar appears to be showing things pepping up again

Been in Otley all day Jed and tbh it was fine snow which had difficulty covering surfaces.

Got to Yeadon different world. Dropped down to horsforth same as Otley and up here same as Yeadon.

Bloody elevation eh..!

Great pics!

I think we've got maybe an hour left in the west Yorkshire area. It has completely pepped up over south Yorkshire so it may push up here.

Was snowing when I woke up this morning, however nothing had settled. Set off to Leeds and there was a dusting in York and then once I got to Tadcaster onwards it was a different world. Bit of a slushy mess in Leeds city centre however a few miles out and there was a good few inches. Deffo been a good winter so far for those in western and southern areas of our region. Thankfully I still have partial snowcover which Im holding onto whilst crying looking at all your pics.  :sorry:

Seems to be rebuilding itself and showers gaining intensity on Radar. Its also Heavy here again, we had no snow for 30 minutes about 4pm, but other than that its been snowing all day. Bizarre considering we weren't expecting it to be like this.
