Could get interesting, wind really picked up here and sleet starting. Looking across to the Pennines looks to be some wintry stuff on the way.

EDIT: Thought I could see something, ITS SNOWING AGAIN !!! ( Have a great vantage point here in Dipton with unencumbered views about 50 miles across to the Pennines, does get a tad windy though when blowing from the west.)

Nothing but sleet and now rain here in Durham.

You'd think the SE was the only part of the country that mattered from the model output thread! :/

Had some light hail showers this morning and some sleety stuff around teatime but raining now.

12z ECM looks interesting for Sunday especially, with a small LP making its way down the Northeast coast.

Another wild night tonight strong wind gusts and some rain thankfully the wind should ease tomorrow with some sunshine and scattered wintry showers

Its good too see the Northerly being upgraded somewhat in terms of cold however its a Northerly that still looks more NNW'ly which is frustrating as it reduces the shower potential.

It only needs a slight shift in orientation but time is running out on any subtle changes!

But what about the N'ly/NE'ly after that (next week)?

Looks quite marginal but it is early to talk about the finer detail on this. I believe your location is more elevated and further inland so you could be okay.

Imo, its not a mouthwatering easterly in terms of strength but as we see with the Northerly any small changes could lead to an upgrade in the upper air temperatures, can only hope so.

After some downgrades generally on the 12z runs, the 18z GFS is again the best of the day for our region, at least in terms of the easterly. We even get into some slider action, although this introduces a nasty warm sector which in low lying coastal areas would turn the event into a washout. A very fluid situation remaining for next week it seems, though it's fair to say at this point it will definitely be cold, and we will get some sort of easterly as the low sinks.

I'm sure the last Easterly delivered bog all here in Newcastle.

Or is my mind playing tricks on me?!

Give me a NE snowmaking machine any day over an Easterly. You can't beat Tyne and Wear streamers in my location.

In that cold winter of 2009 I went to bed one evening at about 21:30 with it being clear, green and frosty, and got up for work the next morning at 06:50 to find we'd had 7" of snow a mile from Newcastle city centre and it snowed all morning too.

The 15 minute journey to work along the Coast Road took 90 minutes.

Happy days, I do love those NEly's!

The wind has finally died down some isolated wintry showers are likely to develop mainly over high ground but for most it should be a cold but sunny winters day

Okay so a downgrade in the models this morning with no real easterly to speak off. however still looks cold to me.

Sunday is looking snowy on the latest gfs for the north east with plenty of precipitation, will it be cold enough!

Take him up to the Pennines - between Stanhope and Middleton is a good place - I did that last year and found enough snow for the kids to go sledging and build a snowman. I won't let a winter go by without them getting to do both. :)
