There was a large flash of lightning in that shower approaching Teesside just now - was outside and saw it distinctly.

Light snow in Darlo again but as with before its never gonna lay given how wet the ground is

I suspect we'll see a covering by morning as we are forecast more snow throughout the night. Even if tonight does not deliver we could be in for a treat next week if the models and net weather medium range forecast are to be believed

I still staying cautious for next week for now if this continues down to a more reliable time frame then I shall become more confident

If only the temps were forecast to be lower tomorrow night we'd get some fairly heavy snow on the leading edge

Just had a very squally hail/snow shower which quickly left a covering, but more hail than snow, so no trouble with anything settling it would seem. However, very shortlived, we need a good hour or so of precipitation to leave a cover and more intensity to allow proper snow to fall. A few surprises quite likely over next 12 hours, plenty of opportunity, hoping to wake up to a nice white cover in the morning - pity any cover will be gone by this time tomorrow though.

Temps are hovering around 0 degrees - its a proper wintry evening.

Evening all,

Two inches here in Nunthorpe

For fifteen or so minutes it was real snow, walking into it gave you a real ice cream headache

What's happening next week? Are we getting a easterly?

Had a heavy snow shower earlier this evening, I think I had seen lightning too. In Peterlee area. Got a slight covering now.

Who says westerlies can't deliver snow to east coastal parts - this evening is proof they can.. indicative of a very deeply unstable airflow and very cold uppers, its the equivalent of the long draw unstable easterly delivering snow to us in the west, and we haven't even got trough features.

The set up is classic proper cold zonality.

Some reports of lightning too, which I guess also shows how unstable it is.

Yeah but come on, this is a rarity.

Only had one very heavy snow shower about 16:15 and it was a cracker. Very dark, heavy snow blowing for about 20 mins.
