I see that later on, Net W have given Brum an 80% chance  ....

Just looking at the radar at the stuff coming down fro the NE, if it can make it ...... then just maybe :)

Cold day here never got above 1.4, already down to -0.5 ,still got some patchy snow cover which must be helping keep the temps down. I think if we had a good couple of inches of laying snow we would be looking at ice days at the moment.

I think...and it's a very unsteady and unsure think...that we're too far west.

Too many things in the way that would eat them up anyway. If South Yorkshire doesn't use them all up then the Peak District will.

Then even if they get that far the M1 corridor cities will have them before they let us get our hands on them!

Where is the East Midlands lot anyway? Someone drive over there to give them a nudge. I don't think they've realised! We need them looking out for these showers!

Can't get the staff! Do us West Midlanders have to watch out for everything! :p

First! glad your B    K ....You know !!! :good: We need more like you BS....  My Glass is the same as yours... Ka-ching!!!

Can I echo that BS? Kerchink, Kerchink.

Don't let the moaners get to you.

Another bit of advice - ignore all the warmies on the MO thread. I still think February will be a special month for cold.

As mentioned above by Gord. The showers off the East Coast are moving inland already about 4-6 hours ahead of schedule. This MUST be good news for them to easily reach us now. Also they are of snow, even to just inland from the coast and down as far as Skeggy. Also people are reporting that the these showers are also on the outskirts of Sheffield already.

Also of note that our resident Brummie in Falmouth says that much of the south west is getting settling snow showers this afternoon, so the cold uppers are now really taking hold.

My max today 2.3C Current temp is 0.6C with a dewpoint of -6.1C!!

Been mainly cloudy all day with just a hazy sun.

Look for the north east wind springing up later to deny us the extrememly low minima, BUT I don't mind because it may bring some settling snow showers.....

Thats why i belive we should keep the midlands thread together when that band hit the west mids it gave an idea of what to expect for our eastern friends and vice versa. And i also like hearing reports of the peak district and the snow they get. Never split us up Netweather

Also reports coming out the mod thread and Ian F comments theres a chance of another northerly next week so good times.

There seems to be very few east midlanders on here. We all do very differently depending on the setup. No snow showers here in Nottingham as yet! We might get a light covering later though.

I think there will be one more snow opportunity after this cold spell comes to an end- not based on anything but a hunch. Most likely a repeat of the marginal events of this winter as I really cannot see long lasting northern blocking setting up this winter.

Glad to have you onboard Kev. Welcome, but lets see some postivity on here as you may not have long to wait before we get blocking to the WEST (agreed not northern blocking) and a very cold northerly turning easterly sets in possibly without northern blocking. Agreed it is much easier if we have HLB though. We have managed an average January (based on 81-10) after a mild start with no HLB, so it is possible.

Hard to see any showers making it inland but you never know its a shame the breakdown couldn't be from a front approaching the west we could have had a good snow event although brief. Most likely is high pressure over us but its where that high goes that will determine the rest of feb

Agree with on this I love hearing when others have got snow falling and trying to work out if its coming my way... I also love reporting that its snowing up this and for you West Midlanders to see if its coming your way etc....I know some from the West Midlands have driven up this way to enjoy the snow we have.. if we were separate how you know if it was worth coming up here or not.... not only that we in the Peak District are neither West or East we are middle so what would happen to us....I certainly wouldn't want a Peak District thread how dull would that be?? Lets just enjoy what we have...plenty of time left for everybody in here...

Actually, some of the showers are diving under the Peak District and now seem to have a clear run into the East Midlands.

That for some of us (not necessarily me but we'll see) is really really good news! If they're coming in at that kind of angle then that's exactly what we want...no hills in the way!

Edit: They're even building up as they move inland. Admittedly not in great strides but it's there!

Anyone want to take any bets as to where they fizzle out? I'm gonna say Rutland myself, as they pass over some higher ground. :-D

I generally post in the Midlands thread though being in the far SE of the region I do check the SE/Anglia one too as only 5 miles from North Cambridgeshire. As we are downwind of Peterborough in these setups it's good to see what TETIS is posting. Even look at the Yorks/Lincs discussion as south Lincs is only 25 miles away.

Gord...

Thats what my post above was trying to say. It seems to be coming much quicker than forecast.

As Dancer says the RADAR doesn't lie.

Good thing about this snow is, seeing as it's not marginal, if you have a close look at the flakes, they should be perfect looking snowflakes.

Could any of you who get that snow, please try to take some close-ups of the structures of the flakes? :-)

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
