Oo-er... I have some MetO snowflakes for Tuesday (including a double for 3am!)

They'll be gone again by tomorrow morning, but just enjoying the moment whilst it lasts!

The only double flake i'll see here is when the ice cream van starts coming round in March!

Temperature dropped to a low of -6.3C just before midnight, but then the cloud came and spoiled the party. Currently -2.7C. A very red sky earlier too, now turning to a dusty purple with shades of orange.

Morning folks,

Lovely day here too.

Still cold with -1.0C now. Humidity 62% and DP of -6C.

Minimum overnight of -3.3C just after midnight with a dewpoint of -9.0C.

Since then thin hazy cloud has spread in, which caused a beutiful pink sunrise here as well.

Cold day ahead it seems.

Darn - missed it.

I saw on TV once, the explanation as to why the old 'red sky in the morning, shepherds warning' saying was actually scientifically accurate. Which would be weird for today as I'm forecast for a day of non-weather really?

And, as predicted, my Tuesday MetO snowflakes have disappeared as quickly as they arrived!

Quelle surprise!

The low angle sun in the morning is reflected and refracted from water vapour and dust particles in the atmosphere, the more water vapour and dust particles, the deeper and more extensive the red colouring.

As our weather generally arrives from the west the saying is based on the premise that the sun rising in the east is shining through water vapour and dust to the west, therefore increasing the likelihood of rain/snow.

The opposite is true of a red sky at night. The sun is then shining through a clear sky to the west and illuminating water vapour and dust to the east, which is generally weather that has passed.
