Had a brief snow shower about 4:30pm that I found surprising, especially after the rain showers I had around lunchtime, and I spot that the NW England are in a yellow warning for snow tomorrow too.

Like this. About a month after I was born, perhaps that's why I'm obsessed with cold and snow! :D

Don't know how old hotcuppa is but we (Bolton) played Everton 1st of January 1979

Game was called off at half time due to heavy snow.

I know we had Dec 2010, but I do hope I see at least one really big winter in my lifetime. How old are you? what's the best winter in terms of cold and snow you have seen 78/79?

Don't care how much snow anyone has. You don't have my dog, so I win :)

I work in romiley, it had all melted there. 2 minute drive to gee cross where I like there's still a good covering!

MAD.

Don't think all that up the werneth low is going anywhere soon. So at least stockfordians don't have far to go.

80% of the snow melted

Hmm, has anyone notice the trough of showers across southern Scotand suddenly developed?

Yes could be heading this way.... tomorrow looks interesting when the northerly winds swing in! Exciting times ahead. This 'less cold' isnt turning out too badly, and has certainly still felt very cold due to wind.

I think it's Forecast to reach our region around midnight, according to met office.

This Evening and Tonight:

Isolated wintry showers this evening, but then a more defined line of showers travelling south across the region around midnight. This clearing south in the early hours, then icy stretches developing. Becoming breezy with strong winds near coasts. Feeling cold. Minimum Temperature -2 °C.

I'm 47. I've seen some epic snowfalls in bolton, but the best ever for me was February 09 in Northampton

7 days of very heavy snow. At one stage ( where the snow did not thaw ) must have been 2 foot of level snow. Unbelievable!!

Good evening Pop Pickers. Looks like there 'could' be a more organised band of showers developing over the Scottish central belt on the most recent radar. Might be worth keeping an eye on if it develops further eh?

Interesting to read what robbo88 says about bands of showers too, could be promising for a further dusting perhaps?

OOps, soz, just noticed WH's post. Ditto.

Could t be the trough that the gfs is forecasting for the early hours but arriving earlier instead? It should hit Cumbria in a couple of hours so let's see what reports come from there. Meanwhile, the showers in the Irish sea have pepped up and should affect more parts of our region soon.

Fully expect it to break up just before getting to me then build back up again after leaving cumbria, probably rain/sleet anyways.

Seems to be a little milder air into Aviemore and the north of Scotland at 18.00 with showers turning to rain 'allegedly' ;)

Think some of you need to take a step waaaaay back instead of analysing each run and taking it as Gospel.

Read Fergie's post..

Sounds good to me!
