Ah now this feels like a summer afternoon in florida! few drops of rain falling from a very hazy sky here, bodes well for the evening hours and overnight as the atmosphere is starting to feel very oppressive. Fingers crossed everyone this setup is going to give a select few a brilliant display at some point in the net 12 hours!

You guys are too impatient, back in the 90's storms didn't kick off until 6pm at the earliest, normally French imports where not until 8pm.

it's only 14:46 and many times things explode un-expected. we have rain which is a good sign, but it's very elevated give it until it least 6.30pm.

Totally agree with this. In my experience, from the mid 2000s which is when I became interested in meteorology, many of the summer storms I can remember would start developing around 2-3pm, and really get going from 4, 5pm onwards.

I'm actually just starting to see some cumulus bubbling up within the shrouds of cloud here, to my east and north. Camera at the ready, and I will get in the car and chase if there's anything within 50 miles or so.

I'd rather the storms arrived at early evening/night, much better display imho

Since that heavy shower just over an hour ago the wind has dropped to almost total stillness. The calm before the storm hopefully.

Exactly! It was bliss here last night with the lights out and following the visible flashes with blitzortung. And because it's evening, you have an excuse for a beer or 6...

Got some slight mammatus now on the edge of the next batch (I think) was more defined before I took the photo - what the proverbial is going on here - like it wants to break all hell loose but can't!

Just got a bit cloudy here, a few drops of rain in it that you can feel on your skin but it's not wetting anything or showing on radar, they feel big and convective type of drops, like you get when a storm is approaching. So something may well be building for north west of here. Good luck. Feeling very warm and humid. temp 24.

Key questions :

Have you got half a pack of cigarettes?

Is it dark?

Are you wearing sunglasses?

I would be very surprised if East Anglia and the Southeast see any thundery action but if things pep up a little it will be all west of London I think. You can never predict a rogue development though haha. I'm still going for Thundery rain mainly!

Me to love it  :yahoo:

Me too and I'd be out there enjoying it if I wasn't some sort of prisoner in my home/work due to hayfever.

Got friends in Morden who hate storms (absolutely hate them)...going by that picture I'll wager they're stressing out a bit right now!

Youre probably right, although i do try to drink a lot of water, especially when the weather is warm and these headaches seem a little more intense than a regular dehydration headache.

who knows:p

this cloud really needs to do one, pleaseeee

Which way are the seagulls flying in your location?

Just watched some old footage of the July 18 storms 2014. Does anyone remember this from last year? - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2696997/Thunderbolt-lightning-frightening-Dramatic-storms-sweep-Britain-ahead-hottest-day-year-far-temperatures-expected-hit-32C.html

The best storm I'd witnessed since the mid 2000s I'm sure.

Been hearing rumbles thinking it's thunder... then I spotted some jets in the distance getting ready for Cosford air show on Sunday. Wonder what delights mother nature will have in store for me tonight.

Keep the faith. All good...torrents again here in Limousin, little rumbles now and again - not talking CGs or anything but all is looking good up there in N France for you...

Most interesting aspect of the July 2014 storms for me was the amount of anvil crawler lightning. Not just in my location but in many places across the country.

Clouds starting to look a bit thicker now and exhibiting darker bases as opposed to the white skies so far. Clutching at straws I know but i am still feeling hopeful.

We had nothing on the 18th at night, however we had an absolute beast on the 19th

Anyway, are those developing cells that i see near MK?!

I notice the rain is starting to intensify a little as it moves north-northwest one to watch maybe.

To me, possibly, but I'm 1000 km away.

You need to conquer that anxiety and learn to enjoy. Start by asking yourself what's the worst that can happen. Then how likely it is. The answers are surprisingly opposed to what you think...
