Amazing how the radar shows the Greater Manchester area almost completely in a rain shadow with all surrounding areas having rain.

high ground can cause this effect but the hills to the north west of Manchester are hardly the Andes.

Weve had heavy rain passing through and showers with what sounds like hail mixed in too.

Cheshire gas streamer setting up, but sadly for those living there is mostly all rain.  Not getting any hopes up for Thursday, could be on the wrong side of marginal unless you on the tops.  Indications showing a possible Monday battleground breakdown could give most of us falling snow, but I'm expecting this will be amended further south and we might keep the cold for a few days longer to start next week.

LOL don't fancy that, better get some masks!!!

lol - I'd go back and edit it, but that'd spoil the fun.  Looking at my keyboard the 's' is nowhere near the 'p' but I do type fast so that's my excuse lol

..a bit of sleet showing up over the higher parts of the peak district and pennine areas, but nothing to write home about.  Hopefully wintry chances will improve and be more widespread in the next few days.

Absolutely ridiculous amount of rain today in the Vale of Clwyd, I did not measure but localised (10-100m long) floodings on numerous B roads and on the A525 from Trefnant to Ruthin. No forecast mentioned this amount of rain at all. Around 4pm, we had a thunderstorm but in the showers (at least 15 showers or longer spells of rain), hail mixed in. Just terrible.

Minor roads in Wrexham badly affected now. As you said - ridiculous amount of rainfall today. Not sure ice or snow is of any importance or relevance now. Everywhere is saturated/badly waterlogged now.

If this is what cold spells deliver, then the sooner it ends the better.

Exactly. If it is just not cold enough for something white (apart from hail), then...I want high pressure. We deserve it for 2 months.

still raining pretty hard as it has done all evening.

frustrating that temperatures are just the wrong side of marginal although no doubt conditions more suited to snow would have meant that it all skirted us and we would have become part of the Manchester drought zone.

Expecting a weather warning in the morning for snow in Cumbria down to quite low levels - perhaps 2-5cm 100-250m, 10 cm ground above 250m late Wednesday and early hours of Thursday.

Slight downgrade with the latest euro4 snow fall map for my part of Oldham - disappointing. Then again these snow fall maps are not always 100% correct. Still looking good above 200m though I'd say.

Compared with the euro4 WRF-NMM tends to over do things with snow but this is nice to see. http://modeles.meteociel.fr/modeles/wrfnmm/runs/2016011218/nmm_uk1-45-36-1.png?13-00

Heavy sleet and wet snow mixed in the showers falling here but to wet/warm to settle.

current temperature is 1.4c.

hopefully tomorrow will see something more substantial but as others have said, very much a case of now casting.

Although I think there is actually a fairly good chance snow will fall and settle to 100-150m asl tomorrow, I think it'll be touch and go, and mostly rain near the coast.

In anticipation that I'm in the wrong place, I'm travelling to Llangollen way tomorrow to walk around Castell Dinas Bran and Eglwyseg Rocks.. at between 300-500m asl it'll be assured to snow, as long as they have precipitation.
