Temp and dew point here are still too high for proper snow. In fact the dew point has crept up very slowly the past hour. Should start dropping again later though.

DP will continue to rise. Irish Sea to blame. Very 'moist' direction. That's why we need the temperatures to drop to equate the dew point.

DP can never exceed the temperature remember.

If this was snow and all of it settled there would be 5 inches by now

No, it won't. Not here miles inland, but unfortunately where you are much closer to the coast it possibly will.

What we should be most annoyed about is that the showers forecast for tomorrow night are all piling into North Wales in the cold air. We're getting the rain now when it's not cold enough.

A66 between Keswick and Penrith is barely passable heading towards Penrith due to snow

Where did you see that? Nothing on the travel incidents yet.

Happens all the time, this region is probably the most frustrating in the whole uk when it comes to snow

Yeah just seen the video someone posted as well! Shows what a bit of height can do in these marginal set ups...

Always happens with a northerly and one of the reasons the majority of our region does so poorly for snow.

meanwhile temperatures are dropping slightly again up here and the sleet is turning more to snow so I'm more hopeful of seeing a bit of a covering by morning although I can't see is being disruptive to travel IMBY.

It's not stopped raining since I got in from the work at 5.30, if goes cold overnight (as it doesn't feel it at the mo), I fear I may have trouble opening my car in the morning!

It's about 280m asl where the snow is settling on the A66.
