 Indeed Chris

Looks ideal tonight for the Cheshire Gap to fire up as posted earlier thought if the winds swings north

then its curtains, need to maintain that NW Wind

C.S

Yes, but IMBY I may still be alright in the latter case with the showers running down the coast. Think there may be some nice surprises tonight.

Nowcast time.

Lovely scene in Keswick this morning, frosty roof tops and snow covered hills.

This reminds me a bit of 17th Dec 2010. No warnings out then but we all know what happened, it took most by surprise. Could it be a mini version? Cold isn't as deep this time though.

I have to dream.

Surely NI will fair well in this in a North or northwesterly, we however wouldn't fair well in a North wind. Probably why they have a warning and we don't?

Wind direction tonight is from the NW

Met office snow warning out for tonight only effecting Cheshire west and Cheshire East Though

I am just out of the warning area,But Crewe Cold could be in luck, this would suggest a slight shift

in wind direction, with the PPN going through N Wales, clipping parts of Cheshire, and into the Middlands

C.S

N Wales the sweet spot, someone going to get a pasting later

Poor effort last night here in the east of the region.....woke up to.....puddles. A similar thing from people in places higher than where I am looking at twitter. I think with a W/NW'y you have to get the cold in first before snow. The air just wasn't cold enough last night for that to happen. As we go through the day today the cold air should now be embedded so any snow that comes through the Cheshire gap should stick and stay for some in the region. It will just lay there and freeze with the cold nights and days coming up. Could have a rare occasion where lowland southern parts of the region have snow cover and other higher places won't.

They've said in the latest warning that small accumulation are possible but it will be more like slush, possible that there will be little to no ppn or it really just isn't cold enough? I'd like to be convinced absolutely wrong because I love snow, guess the proof will be the floor tonight!

You're joking. It's nothing like 2010.

Well if nothing else it's a lovely, bright and crisp winters day in Manc CC, really pleasant!

Also I can see plenty of white covering on the hills around Manchester from my office windows, might have a drive up tomorrow when I'm off and go and see my friends who have recently bought a "fixerupper" in t'hills around Ramsbottom!

The plus side of seeing the snow to the east (driven by north westerly winds!), and probably the snow showers later too far west, is that at least the sun's out...leading to a bright crisp feeling day.  I'd like to feel that some of those showers will filter this way inland, but I have a feeling it's going to be a dry albeit very cold 3-4 days for the Gtr Manchester conurbations.  Good walking weather though!

Sorry Griff74 but there is absolutely no snow anywhere around Ramsbottom or even much higher up where I am.

Hopefully that may change with some of these showers if they ever make it.

Tomorrow afternoon is when the trough is going to cross the region. It is there again in the 6z GFS but the upper air temperatures are marginal so snow on the hills and rain or sleet on low ground.

Joking aside, tonight is a good chance of getting a slight covering. I am slightly west than Crewe (be it very slight) and temps are meant to hover around 0 so could be interesting.

You will be ok there,i think Nantwich,Crewe will be right there on the edge.
