Yep, im working nights so i got to sit and watch it lol.

No chance of anything approaching white round here, really do need an easterly for this part of the world, you know its grim when its snowing in liverpool from a north westerly and up in peninnes at 200m its rain.

It happened the other year and i could not believe it then.

Yes anything from the west is so bl**dy marginal - everything can and often does go wrong...the temps & dew are both higher from the west. Late January 2013 was great with that easterly. Dew points were fine as was the temps when the snow came.

Hooray! It's starting to stick, down to 0.5°C . Just hope we can keep the precipitation going for a while longer.

Of the PPN will be heading from that direction.

Well in a league table of events that turned into nothing, that one is heading for a champions league spot.

went to bed with sleet falling, colder uppers were moving across, ground temperatures were falling to near zero, a lot of precipitation was heading across.

and I woke to ....absolutely zilch.

another let down up here and unless something changes today,  my weekend plans for walking in a winter wonderland have gone the shape of the pear.

Yep, soon as the winds turned NW it was game set and match for anyone around manchester north.

Crewe cold nicked all my snow(again) :D

I have concluded after numerous let downs North westerlies are absolutely useless for my location, its p-retty much easterly or nothing.

Dry and cold for the next few days-hopefully CC and CS can keep some coverage but i wonder if temps of 3 4 and 5 today are going to cause meltage.

Northwesterly a can be good for us if there's a long stretch and it's at the right angle so streamers set up. This one was a bit messy with the centre of the low pressure passing over, so changes in direction.

Agree with that.

IMBY we usually get little if anything in the way of snow from a north westerly unless it has a more westerly element.

most of it skirts me and heads over Manchester towards the Peak District and midlands.

our utopia is a long fetch easterly or Atlantic fronts hitting a cold block and both are as rare as rocking horse poo.

never mind, some members have seen snow so enjoy and I'll keep my fingers crossed for another time.

Recent model runs have backed winds a little too Nly now, meaning most of tonight's showers will be West of here. May see the odd stray one but not expecting much.

Gutted for you cs, at least you got something lol.

The bare fact is its just not cold enough, the uppers are not quite low enough for decent snow, any snow that does fall will be wet and thus will melt quickly.
