Yes the 'biblical' cold march that everyone except the west country enjoyed with even Cornwall and south coast seeing a dusting from the near miss channel low.

By the looks of output it is going to be cold for weeks but probably not quite cold enough for us in south when we do get ppn so enjoy your high heating bills without the rewards :lazy:

I notice the only precip on offer over the next week is Monday and Tuesday rain which coincides with a nice little mild blip. Then it's back to cold and dry again.

Mind you, didn't half enjoy the lovely sunny days early this week, that felt very much like Spring was in the air.

A chilly 3.8c today outside with sunny spells, no good to man nor beast.

GFS just looks cool/cold and wet as we enter March (bar Tuesday which will be mild). Not too enamoured by the charts tbh.

Last winter??I'm still waiting for last summer!! :bomb:

It has been 3 years without a winter now though!

Just hope for one marginal snow event to come my way before spring is out. :D

I saw Ian's post in the model thread yesterday which mentioned the Met long range models point to a colder than average March & early April, and the seasonal long range which goes out to early June indicate a drier then average period which is music to my ears.

Crazy really, if I showed you these 2 charts on February 27th of any year, with an easterly, you wouldn't expect 7c would you. :wallbash:

Chilly cloudy day 6c

Netweather forecast shows snow wed and Friday day time but even if it falls it would be from showers that wont settle so I wouldn't see it being at work both days

I see that Knocker is protecting his daffodils by citing the "M4 clause" in his post on the model thread.:D

"The ecm is showing quite significant snowfalls north of a line Bristol to London through Thursday/Friday as the depression travels SE. "

Indeed and I can report they are in rude health.

Clear sky here this morning with a slight ground frost. Temp 2C and a zephyr from the ESE.

Chilly start again, we've had a lot of light air frosts this month in the minus noughts. Just tipped over the threshold to -01.2C this morning. Hazy sunshine with high cloud already increasing from the west.

Well the clear skies didn't last long as high cloud has quickly encroached and even some high Ac. At least it will get rid of this silly business of a Tg of -3C like last night. My Lilies were in danger.

Good morning all,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend.

A cold start but as MP-R states high level cloud has now rolled in, I did enjoy the sunshine whilst it lasted.

Possible snow Thursday into Friday now then  Hopefully in the over night period as its our best chance.

I'll wait for this to fizzle out on coming days although now we are into spring we might just stand a chance  :D

So as March creeps round time to give an annual winter report for this small spot of Dartmoor

No surprise but a milder winter compared to 14/15

Mean temps for 15/16 (14/15)

Dec - 10.0c (5.8C)

Jan - 6.3c (5.4C)

Feb - 5.1c (4.1C)

Lowest Temp 15/16 (14/15)

-2.9c (3.7c)

Frosts 15/16 (14/15)

15 (27)

Snow Days 15/16 (14/15)

3 (8)

Snow Cover 15/16 (14/15)

0 (4)

First thing to note how temperatures are so much higher, its incredible how mild December was! Frosts are nearly half of the previous year with the majority coming in February.

The met office predictions of mild winter with colder conditions in February have rung true here.

Incidentally when snow did fall it was from a cold North Westerly as in 14/15.

Winter rating. 4/10

Far too early for those stats. You have 2 and half hours left yet! There could be some surprise snowfall.  flag_of_truce.gif
