Blimey a 850mb average of -6c in London by 2nd January, not often you see that, reflects the expected easterly, surely any precipitation would be snow.

The only thing looming is negative dew points...

We all ❤ negative dew points !!

I'm actually surprised at the 850s on the GFSP, certainly will get commented on, but continental flow and all that...

Now then ....

Be prepared for some awsome ENS over the next few days.

If Screaming Easterlies are your thing...

What an utterly incredible turnaround the last week or so has seen.

Very exciting, esp for you guys in the SE with an Easterly draw.

Imagine the  night temps in Scotland with heavy snow over!!

That screams December 1978 or January 1987 for Devon and Cornwall. Bank please

A week or so ago there was a GFS control run that showed some outrageous Synoptics in the Extended. I think maybe the 12z op has just matched or bettered it.

GEM 12z is also another decent run out to t162 so far, although not up to the same standard as the GFS. Great start to the afternoon though. These charts must be enough to crack a smile from @Skullzrulerz hopefully as well!

Nice cold period approaching before low from the south brings milder in on Jan 6th.. As that's far away at this conjuncture hopefully though later runs will keep that low further south along with its milder breakdown.

GFS blows up the LP to the south from 225hr which is a bit of a spoiler for the rest of the run, but excellent run for cold up to then.

Remember how tight the long ensembles were a few days ago - well they are going to be all over the place for the next few runs with a spread of 20C of more on uppers and there will be some frigid ones in there.

Classic vortex destruction signal

or the milder low will have a tougher time breaking down the cold air bedded in from the east and move back after dumping it's snow of course lol
