Front is quick and "violent" as most Northerly ones. After a brief sleet session it has turned to ice pellets and snow here with strong winds.

A few reports from Northumberland and Durham of snow settling to quite low levels.  Precipitation looks quite heavy on the leading edge.  Maybe intensity is leading to evaporative cooling.  Some Pennine areas might get lucky tonight.

Looks like a good few hours of moderate wet snow above 175-200m asl during the early hours -> 2-4cm. Below this expect mostly sleet before an hour or so light wet snow as the front clears.

Great temp gradient, 1.5c here now from 7c an hour ago. 0.7c , 1 mile north up the road.

A reminder also not to follow the METO automated symbols/forecast. Even at nowcast with 1cm cover it shows heavy rain.
