Dont get any ideas about looking for Sunday lunch other than in your kitchen.

Sods law really but you have to accept the reality that we live in a region where we get alot of rainfall but not much snowfall and that snowfall will be harder to get with climate change.

I did thought unlike the NE this region would do alot better with frontal snowfall but in the 5 years living down here, I have not experienced a true frontal snow event.

Do prefer summer these days and I do now crave a strong high pressure with easterly winds as most of the time it delivers warm sunny weather. Storms are a bit hit and miss but last summer did deliver a fantastic storm.

For all the cold this winter, it has never been deep cold uppers wise and Scandinavia has never been in deep cold uppers wise either and that does not look like changing for either.

I much more hopeful we will finally tap into some true proper cold uppers from the NE during February thanks to a developing cold pool here,  February and indeed March are far more likely to deliver scandi highs and easterly airstreams than December and January and the statistics prove this.

Ive got to take my stepson back to Derby on 14th Feb.

Whats the chances, we will have the biggest dumping of snow in my life time (53).

Derby is a tricky place to get to without travelling over some rather high terrain.

So this is probably the nerdiest thing I’ve ever done.

As I have A LOT of time on my hands outside of work at the moment I’ve put together a little iMovie of our recent wintry spell of weather here in the NW.

The amounts of snow in Manchester have not been spectacular at all, only relatively small coverings of about 4-5cm on each occasion, bar Storm Christoph when we had slightly more. Buxton had a good covering on 4th December.

I’ve combined my love of weather/snow and electronic dance music and this is the result - any true snow lover will recognise the manic checking of the lamppost, radar and the wetterzentrale charts.

Seven snow events are shown in all. Two had troughs from the NE, three were Irish Sea snow showers, and the other was Storm Christoph. The Buxton event was low pressure sitting across central UK in a chilly NW’y airmass (this was more of an elevation event).

All the shots were taken in my local area of south Manchester, a few in Salford/Manchester city centre and the obvious ones in Buxton.

Anyway I hope at least somebody appreciates it as I’m going to look like a right pillock otherwise. Just wanted to capture the memory of this spell as we very rarely get snowy runs like this here.

Unfortunately even though someone can be on your ignore list, if someone quote's their post, you can still see it, same with  status update.

I have never put so many people on the ignore list this season as I have done with this one.  (Assuming you can read this post) lol

ECM 0z still shows snow but get the feeling if the models are going down this route, the precipitation won't reach here or weaken and die out.

Genuine question if the PPN was week or if infact it did not reach here would that mean we would stay in the cold air or would the milder air still win out temporary?

Overcast here this morning and a milder feel compared to the last few mornings.

Sunday looking less good already, UKV has the front pivoting in Wales and then pulling away south east while the ECM struggles to get here and is a lot more fragmented.

GFS just blasts on through as ever!

Net still going for hill snow tomorrow haha. Only snow you’ll see tomorrow is if you’re in a hot air balloon at 1500 m. WRF has been solid.
