Hope I’m right with the year but I’m pretty certain that on this date in 2000, rain turned to snow and dropped 3-4 inches as a vigorous depression cleared through.

Yes had a few inches here. At work in Salford there was no snow at all.

I hope you're right. Another 2009/2010 type winter would be amazing. It's the hope that does for us every time!

Deep FI again mate, but the Gfs keeps pushing these charts early on in the season like it was in 2010. Late Nov early Dec is what I'm looking at. I see sea ice has surpassed 2010 from reports in the ice thread I read the other day, it's rebounding very nicely indeed. The very low solar cycle working it's magic again.

Similar problem myself, off to the Turf to see if Burnley can finally get their first league win of the season.
TBH I’m more expectant of a dry and sunny afternoon than 3 points.

Crikey, didn't know it was that long a run. Good win then today.

Noah had only just ordered the timber for his bit of boat building the last time we won in the league

Referring to early season snowfalls that has been mentioned

Halloween snow of 1934

1st November 1934, windflow develops a westerly component and Manchester sees snow, the Wirral saw thunder and lightning

Nasty spell of heavy rain just passed through...thankfully it's the parting gesture of the main rain band and hopefully a clearance will follow for a while before the beefy showers pile in....tomorrow with a north westerly flow is 'my' particularly wettest setup if a conveyor belt of showers line-up.  Bingo if it's snow, busted flush when it's just rain.

Quite a squall line early this morning but now it’s dry and cloudy.
Looking a bit dodgy this evening for Halloween.; Looks like we might get this wraparound occlusion as well as convective showers. A bit of CAPE this afternoon so small chance of lightning.

Weather wants to trick this year rather than treat.

A prolonged very heavy shower now overhead. Was producing lightning in Wales an hour ago.

A wet start to the day today, but dried up just before lunchtime with sunny spells. Went out for a walk just after lunch to make the most of the dry slot. Rain has moved in again now with quite a wet end to the day looking likely, with showers/rain continuing overnight.

Quite a prolonged arc of heavy rain seems to have the NW and me in its sights.

Inside the rain band here now as it makes slow progress eastwards. A wet late afternoon/early evening. Looking very usable after tomorrow - drier but colder and hopefully the first air frost. Good walking weather

Looks like drip or treat for those brave enough to venture out later.

Edit: And its arrived. Sounds like dried peas on the conservatory roof.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
