What a transformation, 24 hours from winter wonderland to rain-sodden hellscape. Foggy and 3 degrees too. Just horrific.

All the flood alarms for the Nene and Great Ouse went off during today.

Yet more rain...! I haven't got the measurements, but it feels like it's been tipping it down for about 30 hours now, with varying intensity...driving into and back from work today, there was puddles more accurately described as mini-floods even on city centre roads. Most definitely not 'usable' weather...!

Agreed, it's been awful. I think there was a brief period today when it kind of, sort of, maybe stopped raining. But that was the limit. The Severn is noticeably higher this afternoon, running swiftly and with a lot of soil runoff in judging by the colour. Sadly it's going to be very easy for it to flood this winter unless we have a properly dry season. 😞

Probably others have seen this article, and I wouldn't go taking much notice of the text which rather implies cloud inversions are so rare as to be something you talk about seeing for years... but the photos taken on the Malverns on Saturday did cheer me up a bit:

Amateur photographer Nick Sturdy says his images "don't do justice" to the feeling of being there.

Superb article/ pics of the Malverns @Arctic Hare, many thanks!

Sadly, agree about the flood risk. I have relations who live just outside Tewkesbury, and they are getting worried.

I agree, it's the absolute pits. It hasn't even got light during the day. Utterly dismal 😒

Assuming it stops raining at about mid-day as forecast, that will be 48 hours of non-stop rain here. Sometimes drizzle, but I'm pretty sure it's never actually stopped.

It started Saturday evening here, during the failed snow hunt.

All the rivers are now rising to dangerously high levels. Nene, Soar, Warwicks Avon, Severn. Great Ouse etc.

The rain is pretty light so flooding shouldn't be a major issue, and forecasted rainfall totals are not particularly high. Having said that, the models have done a pretty poor job at accurately forecasting rainfall totals recently.

Well if you look at the latest projection ,lots more heavy rain to come on Thursday, and Saturday.  I think Thursdays rain will be the catalyst for some more potent flooding 😰

I'm just going by the latest outputs, which suggest that rainfall totals in the region will be around 10-20mm. North-western areas will probably fare worse (as is usually the case).

Still raining here..

I have recorded 20.1mms of rain this month so far. !0,1mms in the last 24hrs.

So the rain has not been heavy, but as it started when the ground was frozen I suspect that a lot has not soaked in and has just run off..

My golf course (most unusually) is closed for the 4th day now. The water is just laying on the surface.

I also am a bit concerned about tonight's forecast frost with the amount of water around on the roads. It  could become very icy.

MIA

You also have the snow melt added, the Severn could be a serious issue by the weekend.

Superb sharp frost overnight, and a beautifully sunny start to the day too - the sunshine at this time of year/ low angle is so beautiful. Shame that it's back to mild and wet for the foreseeable! Definitely made the most of this morning with an early walk. Rather icy and dicey in parts, though! Piccy coming up...
