38.5C at Charlwood. Imminent.

I'm sorry!

Charlwood has really raced up in the last 90 mins.

That would place today at joint 2nd ever.

The record will be broken before 12pm...

Cold here at 34C. 🥶

Looks like we're closer to 35C now in some spots, but your station I've noticed does run a bit 'cool'. A lot of elevation differences across the city of course!

Not a cloud in the sky this far west, which is something of a surprise. Up to 32.8C since my last post, maybe we'll see the old record of 35.2C being broken again but the new record is probably out of reach....We'll see.

Really not convinced by that Charlwood reading though. Gatwick is next door and is about 4C cooler.

Charlwood directly downstream of wind from Gatwick atm interesting to see what happens when wind switches from SE to S

So, was something strange happening last night, to give all these high temperatures at high elevations?

There was an inversion last night, with warmer air higher up. So, temperatures were higher with a bit of height. It's not mega uncommon, but the most common version of it is in autumn and winter on days where there's low cloud trapping cooler air under it, whereas further up it's sunny and warmer.

The London area will likely see peak heat at around 1pm, as cooler uppers start to take effect.

When do you reckon mid-Essex will see the peak heat? Presumably not long after 1pm?

I've found exactly where the site is, it's a good mile from the end of the runway, so who knows?

Sadly it's been discounted by the Met Office. They record the minimums 9am-9am, and there was a lower temperature the previous morning.

Missed this, thanks for the info. So what's the mark now? Is Kenley's 25. 8 °C still standing, or has that been discounted as well?

We get sporadic real time data in at work, plus a few forecasters on Twitter are mentioning it too.

Again, the haphazard nature of publishing data from the Met Office showing its brilliance.

Provisionally that's the new record.

Heathrow now at 37.9C.

Maybe the Warmist conspirators have turned to a new tactic: Napalming the sensors!😊

My god we have hit the highest temperature recorded yesterday but at 11am instead today!!!36 degrees right now and climbing!!

It is absolute madness before yesterday the record temperature we have ever seen was 35c yet it is 36c at 11am 😂 you literally couldn't make it up.

But the scary part is it shows what can happen with the right set up and heat locked in, never ever thought we would see over 35c let alone 36c at 11am that is absolutely crazy all I can liken it too how it feels is working in a kitchen on a very warm day it feels so oppressive.

Actually, it's not there - I used to live nearby and it's closer to the road.

That said, it's in the same direction and the wind isn't blowing from the airport onto it right now.

Some models have the hot uppers holding on until later, so I would say that London may peak a bit later than 1pm.

Will be hard to judge because London for example is gradually decreasing through the day but then has a small bump in the afternoon before the rapid decrease.

Nearest ones would be Durham University and Copley (though it's on high ground).

I do think that readings from Airports would count though?

Teesside Airport is very close to Darlington.

Loftus in Cleveland leading in the NE....nearly 35C there now....
