I was thinking about the 24 July 2019 storms recently - that was also very impressive with a long line of storms traversing the country. Why can’t we get something like this now?

This day 11 years ago, a classic day for UK storm enthusiasts !

elevated storms fired up over the welsh marches  around breakfast swiftly turning into a MCS  which in turn tapped into the boundary layer becoming surface based as they swept through the midlands dropping fist sized hail and a large (by UK standards) tornado near Hinkley in Leic, as well as nr Sleaford (lincs) IIRC.... then moved up over northern england to give the NE some of their best storms in years, again IIRC the River Tyne bridge was struck by lightning !

I lived in Penkridge at the time and rmember the monster storms and the village being under water !

quick edit, there's hopefully still the storm threads in the NW archive as well as a thread I made specifically for this event

Must've been at school for that as I would've been 14, I do recall a school day where it was constant thunder and lightning during lessons but it stopped as we got home

I’ll be in Spain early to mid July, so hoping I might see something convective during that time, while also skipping the cool spell for the first half of July here in England.
Does anybody know of decent radar imagery for Spain/South west Europe?

The Windy app has a radar built in that covers Spain. I just checked on mine. There's just a bit of coverage over Portugal missing. It has built-in data from lightningmaps too which could proof useful as a one-stop-shop for you to use over there.

Depends on where you’re going in Spain. Valencian community up towards Barcelona and the Pyrenees always do very well with discrete convection. The South is mostly wall to wall blue skies however due to less humidity, until late August/September when the Mediterranean Sea convection starts to kick in as the upper atmosphere begins to cool and see more troughs.

Nice lightning strikes in most of Finland. Quite unusual for a country like this. It doesn't thunder in 24 hours in most places and when it does it's very rare. The last 24 hours:

That's such a neat and tidy spread of lightning strikes! Probably the tidiest distribution of sferics I've seen in one country/area!

Been there all evening here, nothing happens till it's north of here though, you can see the heavier stuff over the sea.

I’ll be in the Barcelona area for the most part, thanks!

UKV seems to have suddenly wiped out much of the rain potential early tomorrow, now showing a much narrower band of mostly moderate, showery outbreaks

And it's correct so far. Sums up this year for both rainfall and storms: absolutely pathetic! 2023 is fast becoming the ****test/least eventful year of weather I've ever known!

Some more informative maps and reports of that incredible day. Sadly I have no memory of it.

Finally the cold front has some definition, and it's right on the western side of the ppn. Looks like it might develop a squall eventually.

Yes, only made out a tiny flash so far. Most of it is obscured by low cloud.
