 Metwatch

Slightly surprised with the hail to be honest, strong low-level winds with that low-level jet and modest deep-layer shear. That likely means that it's surface based and the low zero levels allows it to take up a lot of energy in the hail growth zone.

Sparkiee storm Heard a lot of that tracking just to my west. If only it was a more southwesterly flow, I'd have had a more direct hit! Still... 2nd thunder day this month.

We were supposed to be setting off out on the boat this afternoon for Easter, currently sat by the stove watching very strong gusts and torrential rain for last hour, with no end in sight.

If we clear the squall line, we might risk it later!!

2024 is off to a cracking start for some. Can easily see the high sheared environment so not surprised to see some of these storms are long tracked with hail and possible funnel clouds. Nice to see some in the Midlands too. Looks like a hook or 2 in South Wales.

Dxnielwashere That is a cracking funnel cloud there mate!

Interestingly the cell undergoes a split right before you observed that funnel cloud.

The first time this year that a storm has intensified as it lifts over Salisbury Plain. Stunning CG and shotgun thunder a few minutes ago. Very frequent lightning from it!

Weather app suggesting 40mph winds around 6pm, guessing this will be a potential squall line

matty40s That's decent sized hail for the UK.

Makes the hail here look normal.
