The snow is turning heavier now, next 2 hrs probably our best chance of seeing sustained heavier falls, by lunchtime I expect dewpoints to turn above 0, and precipitation will turn sleety and very wet quite quick. If it then peters out and we manage a few cms, couple of inches then it should stick through the afternoon, but touch and go, could well be staring at wet ground by dusk.. will be an interesting day seeing how it all develops.

Will get the cars cleared and moved around after so the BMWs out to take me to hospital tomorrow; it's the car with winter tyres on thankfully!

with the brutally cold temps that are forecast tonight and in coming days, what a shame we have a little mild sector creeping into the region this afternoon. could have been a full 5th Jan 2010 event if it wasn't for that.

Unheard of for Preston is this!

The meto app (I know I know)   is saying this stays heavy for hours but soon turns to rain, not even sleet, rain!   Is that a good shout from them?   Will the lying snow keep downs temps enough to keep it snow?

Possibly 1cm here before it started raining couple hours ago, all going now😫, looking at the radar for the last 12 hours we were quite lucky to even get anything, looks like most of cumbria missed out

Maybe 1-2cm here, nice to wake up too. Dog seemed to enjoy himself though. Sky starting to clear.

I doubt it mate. I would happily take a straight northerly wind right now, get rid of the ppn and keep the lying snow with cold air in place.
