About an inch so far and still coming down nicely, any bets on this continuing into tomorrow or is it all going to be washed away??

Absolutely chucking it down here all morning.   If this had been snow, we’d be buried by now!

Few toys coming out of the pram in the mod thread...a decent start to winter in my opinion..didn't see snow but was nice to have a few cold dry days and nights after a barrage of rain which seemed to go on for an eternity.

Have a lovely Sunday all!

Not a good outlook for the southeast with MetO having issued a yellow warning of rain as of midnight.

Some early signs of a deep Atlantic low pressure system arriving at the end of the week which could bring some strong winds again.  Too soon to say whether this will end up as a ‘storm’ but it’s worth watching to see if it amplifies over the next few days…

UKMO wind gusts Friday 3:00am (NB  certain to change over the next few days)….

All the rain we’ve had up north has been falling as snow on the mountain tops. Hopefully it will stay like that through to the next potential cold spell. Would make for some great mountain hikes over the Christmas period.

Quite a horrible day with plenty of rain, flooded roads and gusty winds here. The main rain band thankfully cleared at about 3pm, more heavy rain and showers expected.

looks like in the medium term the weather is gonna settle down with a cool to cold continental pull of wind direction then a possible major northerly after that around the shortest day!

Oh joy!  Well at least it’s not too bad today and mild, so the various dog walks today should be largely dry.  I think, on reflection, lighting the log burner early this morning to ward off the dreckiness outside not perhaps best plan as I am very very very loath to leave fireside comforts of Yule/xmas card writing to yomp up the hills, but it’s gotta be done.

Hope  all our coastal and hilltop members  batten down proverbial hatches this pm and stay safe.

Luckily for me, it may be windy outdoors but nothing out of the ordinary. Amazingly, westerlies are not too bad for me, despite the closeness to the sea. Where air is forced to rise when coming ashore, even by as little as 300 ft over a couple of miles, it already seems to be slowing down just like a car going uphill. On the other side of the mountain where air drops down again from height it accelerates a lot which has obviously been felt at Capel Curig with a current reading of 81 mph. That's why the BFTE on 1 March 2018 hit our village very hard with roof slates coming off on many houses, including my own. In the meantime, my annual rainfall total crossed the Rubicon yesterday and will now end up a little above my 20 year average. If the jet stream had not been on such a southerly track that would have occurred weeks before. Looking forward now to somewhat drier and settled conditions later next week, however long it may last.
