Weather headlines tonight….

Storm Fergus has also been named to hit on Sunday

So, Storm Elin to be quickly followed by Storm Fergus, with wind rain and flood warnings aplenty.  Just another standard weekend of Winter weather for Wales, really….

Nothing much to write about the weather tonight but I did enjoy these lovely cloud formations just after sunset……

We had a brief power cut this evening plus a couple of very hefty gusts, but now mostly quiet.  Pantsy weather, still large amounts of flooded roads.

VERY windy here over the last hour but no rain so it’s just a wind storm.

Interesting that.  Dry here and wind sounds stronger than it did last night.  Not sure whether wind direction different.  Thankful that rain has stopped -temporarily.

Phew!  Glad that’s over with.  Nice calm, partly cloudy but still dry start here.  Looking forward to a couple of settled days ahead with the promise of a longer settled period of weather leading up to Christmas.  No snow on the horizon as it stands, unfortunately!  GFS to the 19/12….

Ahhh, new traditions for Christmas.   The annual/weekly/daily/thrice daily MADMOD carillon of will it won’t it, will it won’t it.  Soon to become a classic Christmas signal together with those crackers - putting your tree and lights  up straight after Halloween and buying your children special ‘Christmas Eve’ boxes to open before the day, so they don’t hyperventilate and tantrum out….

oops sorry, my inner Grinchy escaped for a minute there…..

I do think it was windier here last night compared to Saturday but not by much.

Most top gusts were in the 30s mph with a top gust of 38.8mph.

didn't see any flashes either for the several hours i was outside so cant have been any convective weather anywhere.

Headline:

Heavy showers today with thunder in places.

Today:

A generally cloudy day with frequent heavy showers for many, these possibly thundery at times with some hail, especially in southern and western coastal regions. Mild but quite blustery at times, mainly in the south. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Still quite an underestimate by the MetOffice this morning imho. Never really stopped here at all, with a fair few atrocious downpours out of embedded Cb but looking as if it was easing of over the next hour or two - hope so anyway. My Bresser station says I'm heading for 35 mm since midnight and lots of watery  pools now in my drive.

According to this forecast found on weatheronline.com, presumably based on GFS (?), I should be in the red zone by now. Bring in the high pressure please and let's all dry out for a little while!!🙏😉

If I see it on Netweather, I believe it!  Keep those fingers and toes crossed for a north-easterly all the way from Scandinavia.   ⛄⛄

Medium term outlook from Met Office looks promising still long long way to go.

However…..the GFS now suggests that we’re going to be stuck on the warm side of a powerful Jet Stream for at least a week which means relentless Atlantic westerlies…..

IMG_1286.thumb.gif.6853500fe5267e8ba5db9014bcd47f01.gif

This jet really needs to move south if we’re going to get any snow in December.

There must be some very tiptoe-y family members when the thingy-z’s and ENS  rollout as groans or whoops heard from Madmod Dad’s/Taid’s direction…..

madmod is now focussed on will there or won’t there  be a SSW, which indicates that tonight’s -z rollout is dire,…

I'm set for anything barring major electricity downage.  Wine in, Xmas day food in, logs in, butane canisters for emergency cooker in,  candles, batteries. Ibuprofens paracetamol, Imodium, cat food.  Knitting yarn,  good reading.  Even if we don’t have snowmaggedon, bad weather etc etc I’m set and the world can bugger off for a week from Christmas Eve.
