So colder weather is almost set in stone by next weekend.Friday HP over North UK dragging a biting cold easterly wind.So dry for most getting colder and harsh frosts at night as, wind drop and freezing fog becomes persistent as wind eases.

So the Gfs has cold locked in for 10 days longer term ,GFS has USA and Northern Europe both affected with northern blocking, lasting to the end of January. With both continents to be affected is a rare occurance

Amber for wind for S Wales? That also feels odd given last week's yellow and today's spot forecast.

might have had a small tornado (or maybe it was the amber warning of wind) but what do you guys think?

image.thumb.png.1cebe81c40be22649881235ea19076e3.pnga lot of debris flown about in just 1 strong gust of wind that lasted about 10 seconds

image.thumb.png.4db14213ddde024c86bcc6d77e501b46.pngsome other close ups

that's all the worst damage i've seen today but if it was a tornado it would probably be ef0-ef1max if not it was a bad gust of wind probably about  65-85mph also this is a video before the big gust/tornado

Looks more like damage anywhere from 40-55mph to me.

If it was a tornado then probably a weak f0.

Despite all the doom and gloom in the the mod thread, that strat warming has failed it hasn't. The vortex has spilt. One section causing zonal wind reversal.Resulting in large High Pressure over Greenland. As a result become cold next week becoming very cold the end of next week as  colder air arrives from the N east.

Easterlies rarely get me excited being on the Western side of Bannau Brycheiniog but to see such dry weather on the horizon is great! We've also managed a frost this morning although the forecasted temp is 5 degrees, just shows that the forecast can often be wrong as well.

I hope we pull a Nwstly in at the end of next week to awaken the Dangler!!

Brisk easterly wind turning colder and colder bitter winds fetching snow showers across Wales on Monday.Showers possible any time radar watching for the rest of next week. Winds switch to northerly. around the14 th of January with heavy snow moving down from North.    THIS is not a normal UK shot cold spell .Another stratospheric warming is happening towards the end of month winds from the east then the north  dominating until end of month severe cold spell on it way.

It's funny how people in the MAD thread are comparing this upcoming cold spell to 1987, 2010, 2018 etc. No cold spell is the same. I never understood getting excited about charts 200+hours out either ,learnt my lesson on doing that a very long time ago.
