This is what winter should be (used to be, for we 'older' folk)...! Love the weather atm. Sure, it's a shame it's not going to last...but a) at least we've had it! and b) maybe we'll get another go, maybe in Feb and March! Somebody else posted somewhere (sorry, can't remember who) that in their area, they think of 'winter' as Jan, Feb, Mar these days, as December is a mild washout and March more consistently cold. So March could be in the game too, like last year. Anyway, for now...I'm thoroughly enjoying the sharp nip in the air. About to go for a short, sharp walk in it! 🙂

Loving it!!

It's really cold out there, I can attest to that. Sadly, I see a lot of homeless folk around the city centre...I hope that they're taken care of on these cold nights. Appreciate that some don't want to go into any form of 'system' for various reasons, but it's deadly cold out there tonight and sleeping under railway arches ain't gonna cut it. Anyway...enough of the social commentary (off-topic, sorry!).

Very clear out there atm, all the warmth is escaping up to 'space', and we're left with some very nice seasonal conditions down here. I know that I moan a lot about the weather at times (!), but these cold, wintry, clear nights are some of my favourite conditions. Lovin' it!

Very cold - my reliable weather station (Google) shows -4 which is probably fairly close looking at reports on here. Some frost already developing on the cars.

Later tonight a few showers could move into the western part of the region heading South, likely missing most.

But tomorrow evening shows a potential Chester Gap develop, leading to more widespread showers moving SE. Uncertainty across modelling with this about how far inland it gets but the French models most interested in a trough bringing a more persistent area through the region..

But let's see. I can guess stoke gets a hammering. :)

Sure, here's the Swiss model - can't download images for whatever reason -

METEOLOGIX.COM

and the harmonie snapshot for tomorrow evening

harmonieeur40-1-32-0.thumb.png.e8693c61d8a87cbd0d1996897b0dc9a6.png

That makes it's way southwards but starts weakening

harmonieeur40-1-35-0.thumb.png.c8d8166afd7da31b08a026d69492dffd.png

I suspect this is showing convection limited so expect more showers than what this is showing. The Swiss model has a good reputation of managing  convection so I'll happily take that run , shows showers from the Chester Gap as early as 2/3 in the afternoon.

Currently -4 here with a real feel of -8. With clear skies and 10 hours to go until sunrise, there is more than enough time for the temp to drop further.
