Hurricane Ophelia
draztik replied to Jo Farrow's topic in Hurricanes, Cyclones and Extreme weather worldwide
Talked to a few family members who seemingly not taking much notice of the warnings - reminds me of that scene from Devil wears prada - hurricane blowing outside which is dismissed as a breeze not funny, but evidently how many folk feel in the province. -

London & the South East will see a mini-heatwave.... Nothing to see here. (assured, if this was about to impact the capital, it would be the BBC's main story) -

The Met office model obviously does not show the same impact; these advisories are subject to change in any case. -

Looks as though Miami will escape the worst of the winds .... so what was seen as catastrophic for the city yesterday, looks not so bad today. -

draztik replied to phil nw.'s topic in Forecast Model Discussion
Really? I mean, will it? Considering the models have led many up the path this summer... i'd consider this just another merry dance. GFS firm. And as we saw back around mid-July - when the GFS op, control and most of its ens suggest the same evolution update after update - it's hard to disregard it. -

to be honest, the GFS Ens are merely showing dry & average temp wise.... I could easily live with that for a couple of weeks. -

That is the hope - a cooler than average Autumn would be the ideal... and the recent August update from the Met Office ensemble system fills one with hope. (July 2m Temp Sept - Nov) & (August update 2m Temp Sept - Nov)... certainly edging down.
