  1. For now, yep. Next possible event looks like the weekend. Still, this snow shouldn't really budge much this week because temps are forecast to stay around or below 0 all week now.
  2. Been showing Leicester under sleet for an hour now but it's still snowing and hasn't turned sleety at any point. Looks like the last bit of the band is over us now, it's been a good event though! I was confident Leicester would just be in the right area last night and i'm glad we were. The roads are wet but the pavements have a good few cm's on and the grass/garage roofs/fences have about 5cm on them.
  3. Hmmm it's tough to say, temps will probably stay steady or rise a bit between now and 3pm. The milder sector stays over us from now until 3-4pm then the low pressure moves away South Eastwards and drags colder air back in from the East. If those that have snow now can survive the mild sector for the next hour or 2 then it will be a result! Because tonight it will freeze over and it doesn't look like it will get milder until Sunday at the earliest! (snow coming down heavier again now)
  4. LOL did West Midlands peeps get too annoyed at the snow reports? Still snowing here, around 5cm on the ground now but it's coming towards squeaky bum time, temp risen up to 0.6c and the dew point has risen above 0c at 0.2c, can we survive the mild sector before the uppers drop again?
  5. This is absolutely awesome, just got home from work and took a video of the snow while I was riding along, i'll upload it to Youtube later. It's been snowing continuous now since 9:30am and has been in 50p flake size for the past 35 mins. Must be about 4-5cm on the grass now on top of the 1-2cm from last night. What are the roads like mate? My Girlfriend works in Whitwick and i'm wondering if she should head home early before it gets worse.
  6. Snowing nicely again here in leicester :-D Not a hint of sleet and it doesnt look like wet snow either, settling nicely. If this whole band stays as snow we could have a good covering!
  7. Around 1cm of snow on the ground this morning here. I'm happy about it but not happy about the latest forecast! The BBC and ITV forecasts look pretty bad for the West Midlands and Central Midlands. I still don't think this is a foregone conclusion though, I think Birmingham Eastwards may be the line between rain and snow. Anywhere East of Birmingham might have a better chance with this.
  8. Just seen that. They also say that Birmingham will reach 5c by the afternoon though I personally can't see it being that mild, i'd expect a max of 3c in Birmingham all day, it really is confusing because on their BBC news 24 forecast they show rain/sleet over Nottingham/Leicester but on the online chart they have it as snow. Same old Beeb that.
  9. Of course i'll still come in to the Midlands thread fizzychops To be honest i'll probably stay in the Midlands thread, Abingdon is Oxfordshire so kind of still Midlands-ish. Snow update... Snowing moderately still, dusting on most surfaces now Radar looks decent, could be another 30-60 mins of this here I think. I'd be happy with this dusting by the morning. Just hope the 2nd band is all snow.
  10. That's a stonking lamp post you have outside your house! Nice and bright I'm currently sitting in the conservatory playing Forza Horizon with my lappy next to me and I can see a really bright lamp post on the main road parallel to the back garden, it's still coming down nicely! Thank god for portable heaters though, that is the only thing that is keeping me from getting hypothermia in here
  11. I'm moving down to Abingdon at the start of February Was thinking of moving down there with my Uncle last year but didn't. I definitely am at the start of February though, leaving my job in Leicester to look for similiar work with better pay down in Abingdon. I moan about the Leicester snow shield but as we speak it's snowing moderately now and a dusting is starting to form! I'll miss this when I move down to snowlessdon. You still near Western park mate? I'm staying at my Girlfriend's at the moment, she lives on Park rise.
  12. I can see the 2nd band appearing to the West of Scotland now, looks pretty good! Just got to hope it falls as snow.
  13. Hmmmm, been snowing for about 40 mins very lightly, only visible on cars, can't really see any dusting on the pavements. I don't reckon this first band will do much here though. Maybe a sugar dusting by the morning, it's the main band that is due to hit arround 9-12pm that is the biggie. If that all falls as snow then BINGO! If it falls as rain/sleet i'll be seriously annoyed!!
  14. Leicester snow shield is working on full power right now! Snowing in Warwickshire (south of here), snowing in Stoke (North West of here) and snowing in Birmingham (West of here) but i've not even seen a flake here yet this evening!
  15. Well, this is exciting to say the least! Even though it stresses me out when the potential snow event is a borderline one which could end up in either 5-10cm snowfall or wet snow/rain which doesn't settle, it is what makes the snow even more special here in the UK! At the moment I think the snow prospects look pretty good across the Midlands. I think 95-100% of the Midlands will have seen at least some snow by tomorrow evening. I reckon quite a lot of the Midlands will see snow tonight from this light band of precip. Even snowless Shrewsbury has a dusting now and I expect Birmingham and surrounding areas will see some snow from tonights system too. I agree that tomorrow is not nailed down at all yet but for what it's worth, i'm going to stick my neck on the line and say that the West Midlands are currently 70-30 in favour of seeing 1-5cm from tomorrows band. Areas on and East a line from say... Nottingham/Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire are around 80-20 in favour of seeing 1-10cm from tomorrows band. I know i'm sitting on the fence a bit with my thoughts but I do think the Midlands is in a good position for these 2 bands now. I mean right now here, it's 1.2c with a dew point of -0.9c. Any PPN that comes here tonight will be 100% snow if those temps stay the same or drop even lower. So we shouldn't be downbeat! Also... A lot of areas around Birmingham/Staffs are higher up than places in Nottingham, Leicester and Northampton. So what we have in favour with the fact we are slightly further East, you guys equal it up with being higher.
  16. Put it this way... If I could be anywhere for tomorrows event, I would choose somewhere like Grantham!
  17. Wouldn't get too downbeat if I were you yet Bish, the BBC/Met forecast a max of 4-5c here on Friday and it didn't get above 3c all day. Also the UKMO 00z run shows a max of 2c by lunchtime
  18. I think Lincoln is the place to be for this, the fact my location is 95m ASL might JUST save me tomorrow but it's extremely knife edge. If the NAE does turn out to be overcooking the warm sector and the West Midlands get snow too, everybody in this thread can say this to the NAE...
  19. I don't mean to throw something negative into this, but I've just looked on xcweather and it seems most of the precip up in Scotland is rain at the moment The milder sector is over Scotland currently and is producing rain, the reason the North West have snow is because the milder sector hasn't made it there yet. Having said that though, I still think all the precip over the East Midlands tomorrow will be of snow, looks a bit more marginal in the West Midlands though. This chart is a bit worrying
  20. Well, i've seen the first snowflakes this Winter! Woke up at 7:30am and looked out the window, much to my surprise.. A dusting of snow and light snow falling under the ol lamp post. 90% of the snow has melted now thanks to the sun, it still remains in shaded areas though Not sure what to expect tonight/tomorrow, I think whatever does fall here in the East Midlands will stay as snow, just not sure how much will fall. Just renewed my N-W radar yesterday, in time for tonight onwards
  21. I'm keeping quiet on the snow prospects, too many times i've seen great snow prospects at t48 that go wrong! I'll only get excited about this event when the precip arrives
  22. Still looks good here though *Puts feet up and sips beer with smug look on face*
  23. Absolutely dreadful, heavy rain followed by a heatwave on Tuesday. Just kidding Looks decent for North Staffs I think, i've kept quiet about this possible snow event on Monday because I know the models can take away snow events as quickly as they introduce them! However Monday does look more and more likely to be an interesting day for snow lovers. I've got work on Monday and I cycle around to different houses in Leicester as a carer, so i'm a litttle wary about how safe it will be if it does snow 5cm+ like it looks like it could! But to be honest i'd love it to snow quite a lot even if it makes my cycle around work more dangerous, that's how much I love snow I'm mad.
  24. Still a huge scatter as early as 5-6 days time, the models still don't have much of a hold on this situation! Can't ever remember seeing the models this unsure before. They've had wobbles in the past similiar to this one but not quite this bad!
