    Reports that prisoners to be released so that they are not in crowded risky cells (shut away from sources of virus) but those of the public that won't self isolate to be locked up.....

    Yet there are those that blame austerity (the economy) for thousands of deaths and this may also come again once the virus has gone. Maybe not in terms of austerity but as a result of destroyed world economies.

    Indeed, whilst normally fit, active and working, my wife and I were both housebound with unrelated medical issues last week. (Also unrelated to COVID 19) The news was on in the background. I was able to take my son on a gentle run on Saturday morning. How much better I felt instantly....out in the real, normal feeling world, in the sunshine.

    Looks like typical spring days with large diurnal range. Frosty at times and sunny most of the time, I hope. Possible mist at first. Hope of crisp lying snow is just that but the odd shower....possibly.

    Yes, the Chelsea player seems to have had very mild symptoms and guess would not have been tested in the wider population.

    Where oh where were these gfs charts in midwinter. Yes I know that Spring relaxation of the PV is largely responsibly for BOOM charts in Spring but why do we have to go through this.....

    Not sure how the tabloids are allowed to get away with their forecasts, especially as the content never supports the headline. They also use "Netweather" maps in rather dubious ways.

    Surely the kid should stay at home and the kids should go to school.

    I think it was actually snow that went with the ice left behind. Whilst not good, it is summer. It was perhaps the speed of melt that was different

    I thought that too but looked up definition and it is shape and not direction.

    Yep holding back on a forecast for friends and relatives here in the Midlands. Snow certainly possible as the week progresses but will it amount to anything is an impossible call to make yet.

    We are told the arctic is warming faster than the tropics This should reduce the temperature differential and thus weaken the jet stream....

    Speed over ground is the mass it is flying in - jet at 200mph + aircraft speed. Basic physics.

    Depends if you are a coldy (which I am) but it had been fascinating in many ways due to the very different overall pattern and overriding of many teleconnections. As for next week...possibly a bit more than "a bit of wind"

    Yep, big difference 7 days out and only the Eastern half of the country gets a 2 day glancing blow. Westward correction desperately needed on pub run.

    I am already starting to think about what this "stuck" pattern will mean for summer - hot or will solar minimum, smoke and volcanic activity result in a poor summer with little distinction between seasons. Erring on the side of the latter unfortunately.

    For those that like storms, Monday night beginning to look really rough across all models. May warrant its own thread shortly as there is consistency there now.

    Yes the 850s are quite high for a very small slither of the south coast but it also looks cloudy so I would think low double figures more likely IF correct.

    Do you know when we last had a high pressure of this strength that hung around for a week or more? Feels like years......

    Still improving trends into week two on GFS. Still need a 500 mile shift NNE though!

    Agree entirely. Certainly we can write off 10 days but beyond that all is up for grabs and that ECM carrot is not that far away from something at least more seasonal and beyond that.....Things could look entirely different in the output by the beginning of next week.

    Hope you're right but it appears that the new solar cycle is beginning to stir and it would be unusual to have three consecutive years with so many spotless days. I hope we get to a hundred spotless.....
