Indeed, moans about 850s but GFS showing perhaps 2 weeks of temps average to slightly below, can put up with that in mid winter. -

Happy to settle for bright and frosty. We are then in the hands of where the high pressure ends up post Christmas and that, nobody knows. -

Happy to take the ECM as an early Christmas pressie. Probably gone in the morning though Christmas day seasonal but beyond that the potential is huge. Fly in the ointment is the stormy Atlantic GFS. -
Yes, my negativity is the effect on the environment/ view and the amount of extra tourists. However, the positive is the diversion of the tourists from the traditional routes as you say. Being an old timer I am happier with the fantastic rail journey.

GFS shows at least 10 days of average to below average temperature. I will take that. Formula 1 lol, given the recent swings, don't even look. -
Model output discussion - into the start of Winter

Most coldies would settle for every time. Yes it's 15 days out but trend is king. Also highlights earlier comments regarding cold not required to blast in from Eastern Europe. -

Not sure a rise of a fraction of a degree in my time of weather watching makes a difference in itself. However, associated pattern changes do and North America seems to have had first pick for cold over the last few winters with a corresponding rise over Europe. -

Seems to have the iron on full steam in an effort to flatten the pattern. Huge variation currently from model to model and from run to run for the same model. Russian Roulette at the moment. -

Storms and Convective discussion- 7th August onwards

We are South of Coventry. Had plenty of thunder and lightning around 6pm and radar showed us under torrential rain. Actually did not have enough to wet the ground. 10 mins drive away there are flash floods. -
Certainly not panic buying! I queued at Tesco from 6.30 and was able to buy most things including toilet Roll. First time for 10 days! No bread though.
-
Yes, see my post. If they can deal with the internet click and collect should be used only for elderly and thus keep them out of shops.
-
Shops here even worse than ever today. Tesco has no bread or milk even. Went in 15 mins after opening. There was toilet roll in people's trolley but none left. Not sure about elderly getting first hour. Wont help if there is nothing there. Also families will be sending elderly out to clear shelves if they have been stocked over night. For me supermarkets are now one of the biggest transfer risks and more time is being spent there, in crowds, to find goods.
-
Toilet Roll has moved from a joke to a serious issue. I went out for three hours today, to 7 shops to help out elderly relatives. Each shop was far worse than Christmas and the jostling and pushing crowds were like Glastonbury. Perfect for catching viruses and I did it 7 times! All the kitchen towels, tissues and baby wipes were gone too and no doubt these will be used and end up blocking sewers or in bins. In both cases adding health hazards. Someone needs to get a grip of this urgently.
