UK Rain Is There Any Sign Of It Ending?

Recommended Posts

Rains in the uk are driving me insane as it’s relentless and non stop, is there any hope on the horizon for a dry spell or do i need to leave the country again to find something nice and save whatever is left of my sanity

Fen Wolf I unfortunately cannot escape as I am caring for multiple people.  Even if I could, I would time my escape to Spain until after Easter, judging by the forecast. Looking fine in the south of Spain from Tues 2nd. Which area do you consider to be the best in southern Europe?

BlueSkies_do_I_see we need the blocking to be in the right place and the jet stream to skirt further north, mind you it'll hinge on whether we get our final SSW, it may not even happen and we may get average stratospheric temperatures which would encourage a different atmospheric set up.

I really hope it doesn’t rain like this fir the rest of the year as it is adding more logs to the fire for my decision to leave this country for good.

It’s such a shame to see a country i grew up in and loved become so bad lately and the constant rain is making the place just miserable.

I am definitely healthy in warmer climates, here i feel at deaths door some mornings when i wake up; it’s not good ☹️

Not true. Turning drier for most central and southern parts.

Fen Wolf i completely hear you. The UK during a good May and June is probably my favourite place on Earth. It's just waiting for it to arrive that's the frustrating part!

Yeah this is ludicrous now. Absolutely throwing it down. No spring again it looks like. Becoming a theme since the 2020 lockdown. Feels like a definite climatological shift of sorts and I am very depressed.

Yes it's thoroughly depressing but with the northern blocking pattern seemingly locked in, coupled with a strong southerly displaced jet stream. I can't see any change until at least the end of April

There is large parts of devon and Cornwall currently under a blanket of laid snow currently 😂 you cannot make this up, from what I saw on my friends facetime, there is about a foot of laid snow currently!  Wtf is going on?

Probs won’t last because of warmth but it was in the last 2 hours from my reports.

Looks like winter has come ❄️

This is laughable now

Can anyone else confirm in sw uk right now of the snow?

BlueSkies_do_I_see Yes mid March to mid June is for here at least our 'dry' slot.. by late June chances of dry weather ebb away quick.

Azazel i feel you brother; i feel the same way ☹️

BlueSkies_do_I_see at least we can make a snowman tonight 😂 it’s more like a sick joke than an april fools joke.  Going on social media i can see a foot of snow in devon, cornwall, big cities like plymouth and exeter too 😳

Fen Wolf some snow in far south west, being reported in south west regional thread.

However, on Dartmoor, Princetown webcam showing thick snow and still coming down.

Just go to google and put in  Dartmoorwebcam

Yes, it will end and we will enter a dry spell at some point. When? Who knows.

danm one of the best examples would be the back half of 1994 and first 3 months of 95 vs the summer of 1995. Indeed the whole 94 is fairly similar to 23 with generally wet with a drier period centered around  early summer vs M/J in 23.

I'm pretty sure had this place been around in Mar 95 similar topics would have come up. We ended up having a classic summer that year.

Sometimes patterns do just flip from one end to the other.

With that being said, I suspect this summer is going to feature sustained wet spells particularly in the 2nd half and particularly further north.

A lot of lightning in my location today in sw england after visiting last night after seeing the snow.  My hammer Mjǫllnir must be causing all this, even happened in the canaries with DANA occurring 😂

kold weather Another example was a very wet spell in March/April 2018 suddenly flipping to warm/hot and dry for the next several months.

Yes, I believe when the wet pattern does finally end, we will be in for a prolonged dry period.  However, what seems to be more and more apparent these days is no matter whether it's a wet or dry period, it will be warm!

danm November probably, but a high will bring never ending stratus cloud lasting the entire month with zero breaks at all, and both day and night temperatures will be at 12c the whole month with no variation at all. Every month until then will be a washout im afraid

Don that's why I'm unconvinced by the "cool and wet" summer predictions. I think July last year demonstrated that we can have the worst possible synoptics for midsummer and still barely see anything notably cool for any prolonged amount of time, in fact I think that July still came out with an above average CET. And that's despite the barrage of polar air that hit.

Not sure about that March 1995 was sunniest on record at Heathrow a sign of things to come.
