Few showers closing in from the south, but not expecting any thunder. Been a nice afternoon so far, 14°C and mostly sunny up until now.

Glad to see the return of storm season. I’m out of hibernation. It’s been one tedious winter! Happy it’s done with.

If we can get any storms like September 10th last year, I’ll be amazed. Best surface based storm I’ve seen for some years, not to mention the night storm that followed that same week. The year is very young.

I hope this is not an indication that this year is going to be a repeat of last year....interesting little storm approching my area, and as per usual as soon as it hits the Stoke shield it weakens. You can bet once it passes over with nothing more than a mere drizzle it becomes supercellular once it's cleared the area and moved off. Story of last year lol.

Turquoise I feel that - we have the Isle Of Wight storm deflector down here, kills all most  storms that dare go near.

Thunderspotter I'm not sure if it's a geographical thing but I noticed over the last few years any storms that do approach either immediately weaken as they go over and then strengthen again when they move away, or they randomly change direction and divert away.

2 welcome early rumbles here in the last 5 minutes. That may be our lot for 2024 of course!

Yeah had two flashes of lightning down in Beesands and two claps of very loud thunder. Totally unexpected. Very heavy rain too ☔

Some quite threatening skies despite the showers not amounting to much. Always something to capture! Also dropped to 10C here in the shower.

Can see 3 huge anvils to my north - one with what seems to appear to be overshooting somewhat (might be wrong).

Likely the Peak District batch, Nottingham cells and the remnants of the Leicester showers.

That's insane!! Just had a mega bright flash of lightning from a cell at Newark!

Wouldn't have thought you could see lightning so bright at this daylight from this distance
