Storm Risk Discussion Part 3

Just had the lightest shower ever, lasting about 30 seconds - massive raindrops though...

edit: ok, it looks like convection is now dead for my part of the country - only standard small cumulus are passing by now.

Good luck to anyone, perhaps around Southampton area as that looks like the best area, with the highest temperatures etc.

Right, don't think we are going to breed anything else today from around here - having said that a rather suspect looking sky to my SE!

Very interesting afternoon, a great arc of towers spanning from my SW, to the W, NW, N and then fading off too the North East. Awesome sight, but shame there's nothing interesting from them? Very warm and humid here today with clear blue skies above :drunk:

yes our town is behind a mountain and is low so we must get the foehn affect aswell as that the nearest station 10miles away is still at 25c.

Well, nice and hot here in Exeter, fairly humid too, might see some sharp showers later. Fair bit of good convection about too.

Also, just seen the UKASF forecast, another disappointing and certainly very amateur forecast for me. 1400 CAPE, what are they talking about? Even the GFS which will over hype dew points a bit isn't pulling much more than 1000 out of the bag and the high res model agrees with that. They are right about the convergence though.

I suppose it depends on the opinion of the forecaster that issued it? Mind you, it probably was showing those values when the forecast was issued, as it looks like it was issued quite early, around lunchtime yesterday. Incidentally this chart does indicate up to 1300/1400-ish of CAPE available so you never know :)http://cirrus.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs....06/ukcapeli.png

Warmer today than yesterday, currently 22.3C with a light breeze - lovely! B)

not doubting your reading at all mate, just wondering, is your thermometer near the ground?, if so, that'll be why your registering a high temp, ground temp is 3-4C warmer than the air temp during daytime heating....just a thought

What sort of exposure and set up do you have? Its on sunny days with light winds that the benefits of a stevenson screen are shown.

To be fair to Frostyjoe, if you look at Wunderground at present a fair number of AWS's are recording similar figures in parts of the country.

Already reached it here, the ground is melting, I got no proof so you're just gonna have to take my word for it :)

Fair enough. I melted at 6am this morning when it was 70c. B)

Anyway, i reached 26c today and havent seen one cloud at all today! Amazing!
