Do most people still have lying snow from yesterday?

We certainly do. And a layer of ice is forming on top of it as it crunches when you tread on it.

However,, when I went into Cambridge yesterday although they'd had a bit more judging from the radar, the urban heat island effect was in operation and it looked very slushy.

Again I think Kent 'could' do well as it moves over the water of the estuary/north sea as it moves south, and as it comes up against the land rise around the North Downs, could add a few cm's/inches because of it

is this "warm sector" following the front down?

No, there is very cold air behind the front...there was a mild sector forecast to be wrapped up in the front...but the VERY cold weather in front, and the cold weather behind means by the time its further south it should be snow for most!

Snow for most apart from the coast possibly? Thats what it looks to me?

I don't think that front is going to get that far south to be honest...

With the 12z GFS run upgrading the precipitation this MAY be a continuing trend with the front becoming

more active as it comes south.

It will be interesting watching the radar as it comes south and also reading what the posters are saying

further north.

From the east Midlands east and south there should be nothing to worry about as far as warm sectors

and will it rain worries.

This should be a all snow event.

Just come back from a walk along the beach, and without fear of contradiction this is the coldest I have ever known the weather to be here. Perishing, Feeezing. Must be mius 6 or 7. Bitterly Cold.

hope you wrapped up warm :o :(

Why do the met office / NW forecasts predict temperatures going back up above freezing between 2200-0200 tonight? For Herts/Bucks areas?

am no expert, but perhaps the cloud cover will be the cause for the rise in temps :(

Wouldn't the metoffice warnings for today around NE/NW england, Yorkshire/Humber, and tomorrows for more of the west of the country suggest that the front is moving in a SW direction?

quite possibly, but, it still doesn't mean the SE won't get snow. and as always, the Met O are always on the ball when it comes to upgrading their warnings. so still the chance of flash warnings to be issued. even so. they are always forecasting 10-15cm for the SE overnight and may feel that is not "heavy" enough for a warning. but its still enough to give a nice covering in the morning to wake up to :(
