A very Merry Christmas to everyone here in the southwest! What a social group we are!

Well certainly not a technical white Christmas here and I don't think it will be now as the temperature is 4.1C here already. Lovely to have a frosty start on top of a thin broken layer of snow on the ground though. Here's for next week. :whistling:

Temperature is still strugling here with the snowcover to blame i feel.

2.1c

Next week could be epic if we could just get some luck on our side for once. rolleyes.gif

Could be epic indeed :)

To be honest I would actually settle for a good snow event. Charts are suggesting 25-30cm which just seems too good to be true (Never see anything near that amount in my life) Even if the luck isn't all on our side, its looking like we will still see good accumulations :)

Bring it on :)

I think if glouc gets snow again and we miss out we shall have to relocate you into the midlands thread because it will just upset me to read all the snow reports. blush.gifhelp.gifcray.gif

Seems like a slight down grade for us with models moving it further north again but it is still few days away yet. Do fear meto have finger on the pulse and the warning is gonna be for correct areas though. wallbash.gifnea.gif

Good Morning peeps. Hope everyone is having a brilliant Christmas! :smiliz19:

I drove back from Devon to here on Christmas Eve and I have to admit to hogging all the snow. It really does look like it was us lucky peeps to the north of Bristol that caught that dumping last Sunday night. I will definitely have this one as a White Christmas, although most of the lying snow melted last night, so there is not much left.

I haven't seen the model discussion thread yet, nor the MetO forecast, but judging by comments in this thread there may be something tasty for us for next week, eh? I shall go and investigate. I shalln't get my hopes up too high as I already feel that I have been blessed in the snow department!

I hope we all get LOADS OF SNOW this Winter! :smiliz19:

Hmmmmm. For Tuesday and Wednesday, MetO says risk of heavy snow for Gloucs and heavy rain for Devon and Cornwall. Nothing for Somerset, Bristol or South Gloucs, nor Dorset and Wiltshire.

Not very thrilling unless you happen to be in Gloucs! :smiliz19:

It seems we have the precipitation down, we just need the cold. Just checked the MetO warning and they think the rain in the south may turn to snow overnight into wednesday. Although I bet as soon as I leave to go back to bristol it will snow here.

Well, Lets hope next week is fun snow wise.

Its gonna be a short week at work, So this may help pass some time also.

It would be really nice to get some decnt snowfall, However considering the outcome of the last lot and previous winters.... Ill try not to get too excited.. But i fear it may be hard to control.

Wheres my beer.

Hey all - hope you had a great one

I've just been looking at the 12z gfs charts for next week on meteociel.fr ..

I know this is IMBY, and you'll all have a handle on your areas anyway (Check the meteociel.fr link and the 0.5 gfs model if not, but here's what the 12z shows for the cirencester/cotswolds area.

tuesday 29 1am 0c - no precip

tuesday 29 4am -1c - no precip

tuesday 29 7am 0c - no precip

tuesday 29 10am 0c - no precip

tuesday 29 1pm 2c - 1-2mm (3 Hr)

tuesday 29 4pm 2c - 2-5mm (3 Hr)

tuseday 29 7pm 2c - 2-5mm (3 hr)

tuesday 29 10pm 0c - 1-2mm (3 Hr)

wednesday 30 1am 1c - 0.5-1mm (3 Hr)

---

wednesday 30 7am 1c - 2-5mm (6 Hr)

---

wednesday 30 1pm 1.5c - 5-10mm (6 Hr)

---

wednesday 30 7pm 1.5c - 10-15mm (6 Hr)

---

thursday 31 1am 1c 2-5mm (6 Hr)

---

thursday 31 7am 1c - 10-15mm (6 Hr)

---

thursday 31 1pm 0c - 5-10mm (6 Hr)

---

thursday 31 7pm 0c - 5-10mm (6 Hr)

---

friday 1 1am 0c - 0.2-0.5mm (6 Hr)

---

friday 1 7am 0c - 0.1-0.2 mm (6 Hr)

I dint think the gfs serves up dewpoints, but from what I can tell the chance of snow increases wednesday onwards after some rain initialy possibly.

I think the precip amounts are just a guide this far out at best - there will be a couple of cores of heavy precip running through i'd imagine with larger numbers than this, which at this far out could affect north or south of where modeled (or nowhere ofcourse!). Interesting to see how the temps match up though ..

Sam

in addition - the above is comparable rain amounts, so anything falling as snow as a rough guide you need to times by 10 to get the snowfall depth. If it snows from tuesday night onwards, thats a modeled minimum of 39.8 mm by the end of the period, equating to 39cm of snow - over a foot. However! - easy to get carried away by charts as you all know - it may not get cold enough to snow atall in our area, and precip amounts may be substancialy reduced even if they stay cold. All sucking eggs though as everyone knows this. But hell - what's life without hope hey ;)

Sam you have just read my mind, thats what I was going to post.

After doing some study since yeasterday I came up with a depth of 1 FT possible

scenario!!!

If things come together

Havent seen this since 1981/82

Though its early day's, ;)

I have heard this could be torrential PPN at some point...So what would that be as snow
