Top temp of -5 here today! Had an inch of powder over the 3" of ice. Its currently -11 and even the river doon is starting to freeze over. Its been about 15 years since i remember the weather being like this! Sure beats wind n rain!

And just for a wee change, we have snow gently tumbling from the heavens on the south side of Glasgow.

Tomorrow's news is going to be great fun as London shuts down. Meanwhile, the fact that the north of our country is effectively cut off doesn't even merit a Met Office red alert.

Whit a farce!

From the radar ... theres more behind it .. you're just in a break before the next one.

CMIIW but I think there is too much North in it, and could be off south. Stopped here.

Started snowing in central Edinburgh, immediately lying on all pavements and nearly all roads. Let the usual chaos begin! Very pretty though...

I hope everyone drives safe etc, even main roads getting a covering.

sss

This band has gone south, unlikely to reach us now. I think we'll need to let this band pass and hope we can get enough convection building up in the North Sea later on.

Stopped here, but it does look like some of the band might hit us later on with the winds turning towards an easterly. Reporting Scotland seems to think more is coming later, as does the NAE model which the Met Office uses (though clearly not when doing their graphical forecast which contradicts it totally!). It seems plausible, with lots of potential for snow for eastern scotland in the next 12-18 hours.

Hey, what's the name of the big city right in the South East of the Met Office radar map of the UK?

Looks like they might get some very heavy snow soon.

Maybe we should warn them?

Slight note of caution. Sea-level/coastal temps now up to 0c to 2c generally with the NE'er blowing away the earlier sub-zeros (Edin airport from -4c to 1c in an hour). Dew-points still favourable so not panicking. Just that it won't be a powdery sub-zero snowfall event ... anyway, no pain, no gain - and surfaces will hold anything that falls.

-7c with light snow

From the radar it looks like the smallest of showers unfortunately! There appeared to be a band heading South but I think it made a violent change of direction and headed SE! Either that or fizzled out.

The next lot of showers have hit the mainland from the North Sea and making their way on a south westerly direction.

How much will hit us remains to be seen......

West-East split in Embra just now - east side getting pasted as the trafficcams testify, clearer on the west side of town.

Plenty falling here in Leith improving the local ski-ing conditions :whistling:
