Wednesday

Very warm for Spain and Portugal with a few afternoon thunderstorms developing. It will be hot and sunny through the central Mediterranean, although some heavy thunderstorms for Greece and Turkey. Heavy showers and thunderstorms over southern France and northern Italy, Switzerland and Austria. Breezy for northern France and the Low Countries and well as Germany. Broken cloud and dry here with some rain affecting northern Poland. Fine and sunny for Norway. Some hefty showers may affect Denmark. Cloud and some showers in Denmark and Finland with further heavy showers across eastern Sweden.

 

Thursday

High pressure brings sunshine and fine conditions to most of Spain and Portugal through Thursday. There is a low risk of a thunderstorm inland. Across the Balearics and Italy it will be staying fine and sunny, although some heavy showers could affect Greece and Turkey. Through central Europe and front will be bringing some cloud and outbreaks of rain. Most of the rain in eastern France, Switzerland and Hungary as well as Austria. Breezy in northern France with sunny spells, and fair across the Low Countries and Germany. Showers and rain slipping south through Poland. A fair day in Norway with sunny spells. More sunshine to come through Denmark. Some cloud and rain affecting the Baltic States, but Finland and Sweden should be dry with plenty of sunshine.

Some heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected across Poland, The Baltic States, into The Czech Republic. Sunny and very warm across Hungary, Croatia and Serbia with a few late afternoon showers. Dry, sunny and warm across Greece, Turkey, Romania, The Ukraine and much of Russia. Lots of sunshine to come across Norway, Sweden and Finland. Some heavy showers develop across Italy today but dry and sunny across into Corsica and Sardinia.

It continues very warm to hot across much of Europe today with plenty of sunshine from into France, Britain into Germany and Austria. Cloudier across The Low Counties with some patchy drizzle. A number of heavy, thundery showers affect Poland, The Baltic States, Belarus and the western Ukraine. For Russia, the eastern Ukraine into Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey it is sunny, dry and very warm. Fine and warm as well across Croatia, Serbia, Austria and Hungry. Occasional showers develop across Italy today with another hot and sunny day to come across Portugal and Spain but the north of Spain may see the odd thunderstorm. A warm, sunny day across all of Scandinavia but a bit cooler across Norway.

GFS has been pointing towards some very warm weather this weekend into Monday for parts of central and eastern Europe. Projected temperatures at the moment are very close to the records of 39.7°C for Austria, 40.2°C for Germany and Poland, 40.3°C for Slovakia, 40.4°C for the Czech Republic and 41.9 for Hungary. Worth keeping an eye on Saturday and more especially Sunday/Monday.

GFS has been pointing towards some very warm weather this weekend into Monday for parts of central and eastern Europe. Projected temperatures at the moment are very close to the records of 39.7°C for Austria, 40.2°C for Germany and Poland, 40.3°C for Slovakia, 40.4°C for the Czech Republic and 41.9 for Hungary. Worth keeping an eye on Saturday and more especially Sunday/Monday.

 

Yep looks even hotter next week if ECM is right 40c would be hit widely across western Europe (UK excluded)

Thundery through western areas, hot in the east

Saturday

Some heavy thunderstorms developing across much of Spain through Saturday. Portugal should be largely dry with sunny spells. The thunderstorms affecting the east and south of Spain too. The central Mediterranean should be dry with sunny spells, although thunderstorms are likely in Greece and Turkey. large thunderstorms for the west and north of France as well as through the Low Countries. Some cloud and spots of rain for northern Germany. The rest of Germany, Poland, Hungary and Switzerland will be hot. Some cloud and rain across Denmark and southern Norway. A few showers for Sweden, but mainly dry here. Sunny and dry for the Baltic States and dry too for western Russia and Finland.

 

Sunday

 

Some thundery showers over northern Spain on Sunday. A few showers in eastern Spain too. Drier through the south with sunny spells. Fair in the Balearics and Italy with plenty of sunshine. Dry and sunny across Greece and Turkey. Some thunderstorms over France, the heaviest of them to the west. Sunny spells and showers through the Low Countries, with a chance of some thunderstorms in northern Germany. Thundery showers in eastern Germany and Poland as well as Switzerland and Hungary. Cloud and rain across Denmark, some of it heavy at times. Cloud and some outbreaks of rain in southern Norway and southern Sweden. The Baltic States will have sunny spells and will be warm and dry, as will be Finland. Northern Norway and Sweden should be dry with sunny spells.

Hot sunny for eastern Europe

Today

Very warm to hot across Europe and mainly dry for most areas. Dry across northern France, and across the Low Countries. This extends east into Germany, Poland. Lots of hot sunshine across the Baltic States into Belarus and across the Balkans, the Adriatic Region through Greece and Turkey. Sunny and hot as well across into Italy through Sardinia and the Balearics. Some heavy showers to come across Portugal but mainly dry across Spain with showers and thunderstorms across southern France and the Alps. Rain spreads in across Norway with heavy showers across Sweden and Russia with a sunny, warm day across Finland. It will be quite breezy through the Aegean Sea into the eastern Mediterranean.

 

Monday

It continues very warm across Europe on Monday. Expect heavy showers and thunderstorms across Britain and western France today. Dry across eastern France. Heavy showers are expected across the Low Countries into Germany with heavy, thundery rain across Switzerland and the Alpine Region. Showers too will affect the far north of Italy with the rest of Italy dry and sunny. Lots of very warm sunshine again today across Poland, The Baltic States, The Balkans and the Adriatic Region. Mainly dry across Norway, Sweden and Finland today with a good deal of cloud. A dry, sunny day to come across Spain and Portugal into the Balearics. [Interitus]

No national records were set over the weekend with temperatures typically falling short by a couple of degrees eg. 38.7°C at Cerklje Ob Krki in Slovenia and 38.1°C at Rheinstetten in Germany.

The 38.7°C at Doksany in the Czech republic was 1.7 degrees from the record but is interesting as this was only set less than a year ago in August 2012 (note: this also includes temperatures from the former Czechoslovakia).

 

However the closest to record breaking was in Austria where Waidhofen and Bad Goisern recorded 39.2°C only 0.5 a degree below the record of 39.7°C set at Dellach im Drautal in 1983.

The temperature at Bad Goisern sets a new record for Upper Austria beating the previous 39 degrees set in 1957, whilst Waidhofen was a tenth from the Lower Austria record.

Also a new record was set for Salzburg province of 38.6°C at Salzburg against the former record of 37.7°C in 1983.

Other local records include Villach 38.7°C (cf. 37.4° - 28/07/1983) and Klagenfurt 38.1°C (37.4° - 05/07/1950) in Carinthia; the Vorarlberg capital Bregenz  with 37.5°C (36.6° - 11/07/1984), and at an altitude of 1,547 metres the town of Rax with 28.4°C (27.0° - 14/08/2003).

 

Today the heat is still affecting the east of Austria with Graz reaching 37.9° so far.

Rain moves north across the United Kingdom with light rain for northern France. Lots of showers, some heavy with scattered thunderstorms across Belgium, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Fine, sunny and warm across southern France through the Alpine Region, Italy and across into the Adriatic Region and the Balkans. There is a risk of some showers across Romania, the western Ukraine and the Baltic States. Dry across Finland and Russia. Another hot, sunny day to come across Portugal and Spain and fine across the Balearics into Corsica and Sardinia. Hottest temperatures today will be across Iberia, The Balkans and Russia. The chance of some thunderstorms breaking out across northern and central Spain through Thursday. These may reach western France later. Hot and fair conditions through the rest of France and also the Low Countries. Germany stays hit and dry, although some cloud could affect the far north of Poland. Austria, Hungary and Switzerland are likely to be dry with sunny spells. Eastern and southern Spain and well as Portugal should be dry with lots of sunshine. More sunshine across the Balearics and staying hot here. A fine day across Italy with plenty of sunshine, and remaining dry and sunny in Greece. Turkey should be dry and sunny too. Cloud and some drizzle in Denmark. Dry for southern Sweden and the south of Norway with sunny spells. More dry weather with sunshine over the Baltic States. A few showers for Finland and central parts of Sweden.
