Couldn't agree more Karyo, I don't think the snow levels in the northern H have any direct corelation on our weather UNLESS we get a true easterly. You only have to look at the latest N-H snow images to see exactly the current sypmotic pattern. When the Scandi/euro high moves and the Atlantic returns you will see two changes: 1. Snow cover will return to Scandi and the southern extent of the snow in eastern Aisia will retreat north...i.e. the cover will return to average??

That's quite likely and overall I see more loses than gains.

Looking at the Alps in particular, there is the chance of some snow for next Friday, however this has been the subject of some variation over the last 24 hours, as to how far south the colder air will plunge, to give a window of cold weather.

After this the charts look tentatively promising for further cold air from the North/West.

I like how the snow follows the Russian-Ukrainian border

Very mild in the eastern US/Canada, which is also emphasised by the lack of snow in eastern Quebec.

PNA is about to go neutral/positive which should produce some snow for the north east.

WOW, Look at those reds..

Looks like the whole Atlantic side US and UK is getting no winter this year :(

Lets just hope that things change and allow these colder pools of air to move in. This HP in euro needs to vanish.

Scandinavia seems to be doing a little better now, but still a way to go.

Masses of snow everywhere except for around the Atlantic areas. I hope this changes soon and the HP in Europe goes to bother someone else.

HUdson Bay seems to have started getting iced up, especially in the West. Quite a bit of growth in the past few days.

Should see the reds over Scandinavia reduce alot by the end of November, the pattern the models are suggesting at the moment would produce alot of wsnow for Scandinavia, especially northern parts.

A chance that this more zonal flow could push milder air into Eastern Europe and West Russia? Maybe some losses there if the models are to be believed?

Depends on exactly how it sets-up really, but at least if the 00z ECM was right we'd see significant gains across E.Europe, esp on the northern part. Wouldn't be a huge change elsewhere its just Europe will get a higher chance of snow than we've had all Autumn.

Afternoon all!

Yes there isn't much change and the saga of the snowless northwest continues.

Here's today's anomoly.

Nice to see Quebec/Labrador has caught up, snow was way down there.

The snow cover is symptomatic of recent synoptics, Europe and NE USA/SE Canada being least favoured for any snow, whereas NW Canada has reaped rewards. However, we are beginning to see a pattern change, by the end of the weekend much of scandanavia should be white and also SE Canada should see some more white cover, we may even see a pixel or two over highland scotland. The Alps on the other hand will continue to see little snow - the euro high being stubborn in its persistance.
