Some of us might take offence at how far west that circle extends. . . .

British Isles sooo... also no need to take offence only a weather forum.

Hardly, it's perfectly normal for Scandanavia to have snow cover in the winter, even during our most westerly / mildest winters. So it certainly doesn't guarantee an easterly.

Anyone noticed how close the icepack is to linking up with Iceland? Is this normal for the last few decades, I seem to remember people suggesting it used link up to Iceland in the 60s but hadn't done so since.

I'm not an expert, but I do think it was less frequent in 90's especially. I think it has done so the last few winters though. Don't quote me on that though.

I was also very intrigued at how the icepack is much more southerly extent on our side of the atlantic this year than comparing to a similar time last year with much colder temperatures in our part of the world, this can only bode well, and if things continue I wouldn't be surprised if Iceland and Greenland linked up before January, they did last year all be it briefly if I remember rightly.

Greenland sea ice briefly touched Iceland's far north coast last year but not much, it's almost doing so now in early December, Iceland is colder then normal right now, so who knows, maybe soon, walking from Nuuk (Greenland capital) to Reykjavik will become possible!

I think the yellow represents sea ice extent, which only require 15% of the ocean area to be covered by ice for it to show up as yellow. So even if it spreads from Greenland to Iceland, I wouldn't try crossing over it quite yet!

Significant red anomaly over west russia indicative of the raging jet powering into russia - reminds me of conditions in Dec 2006 which saw europe devoid of much snow. I visited Moscow new year 07 and it actually rained with temps up to 2-3 degree max...

plenty of time for things to change and its pleasing to see scandi white at long last.

Nice to see some snow finally getting across some of the Baltic states and Romania.

look at the big holes that have opened up across central and western canada...in fact there is a lot less snow in Canada than this actually shows

But going by the anomaly map this doesn't seem to be unusual for this time of year? Unless the anomaly ap is older than the snow extent map.

Fron the charts above it seems that there's a bit of snow arounf Toronto. I can personally state that unless there's been a dumping since Saturday lunchtime that west of Toronto, there was no snow at all.
