GTLTW I too hope it continues the due North trend, I remember the pains of a perfect SSW (ish stream) coming up some time back hitting the likes of pompy, guildford, woking, slough, missing us here completely bar the odd rumble. Due north is good, we shall see how it pans out.

Hi John,

Would be good for a change, I'm hoping a bigger area down south might get hit as I pointed out in my comments earlier in this thread.

Here's why I'm at least hopeful of a more widespread hit but of course the CURRENT forecasts don't suggest this to be case!

In the next couple of hours look out for reports from Jersey as this is heading for them firstly.

KInd Regards

Possibly the reddest sky I have ever seen, would have taken a picture but my phone has run out of battery, always the way!

I got one here in Essex.

Hi Lauren,

Does this do it Justice??

That a lovely picture, but it honestly almost blood red. My camera keeps making it lighter though.

I got one here in Essex.

Can red sky at night sometimes be a warning? I know morning it's a warning. But at sunset, surely not with what's forecasted?

Red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning;

red sky at night, shepherd's delight

- Near sunset and sunrise rays from the low sun travel a much longer distance through the atmosphere encountering many more dust particles. These scatter the longer wavelength red end of the light spectrum (when the sun is high in the sky, that is why the sky appears a blue colour). A red sky at night suggests a clear sky for hundreds of miles beyond the western horizon, and no imminent frontal systems bringing rain. Red sky in the morning tells us little about what is approaching from the west, but only that eastern skies are largely clear. However when this corresponds to the zone of fine weather which often exists between two depressions, then it suggest that it is moving away eastwards with more bad weather not far away to the west.

In the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland: Red sky at night, shepherd's delight, Red sky in morning, shepherd's warning.

Could be, and for some tonight... 'Red sky at night... Stormwatchers delight'. But the saying in general 'Red sky at night, Shepherds delight can be a bit of a misnomer as a mackerel sky (As posted by Lauren et al) can be a forewarning of inclement weather for the next day. But if a front that has passed through and the same occurs, then normally a more settled next day, albeit with possible showers.

Phil.

Thanks for explaining the Wifes tale a bit more in-depth, well I fancy sleeping a little bit soon, waking up at midnight and see what's going on.

And another one towards the west!

Very nice Callie although it looks a lot more settled than the one I posted earlier.
