That's the last 24 hours in that animation! whistling.gif

I know but you can see that there's a large cloud in the sea that is coming towards us when you move your mouse towards 16:00 Monday.

How come the NE is in an amber alert and so far today we have only had gusts around 50-60? Not that frequent now either lol

With regard to the feature off the SW coast, 21st OWS have it detailed for 18.00 hrs:

But gone by midnight without it making it to our shores:

GFS tends to agree with that:

It may tickle South Wales, but nothing significant

Still plenty of sheer at all levels though:

Worst of the gusts across much of the UK have subsided, with maybe a bit more to come in the NE and boarders area overnight.

Looked over the models and can't see this forecast. Not that quick anyway and in that position, I think it's part of the middle cold front that trails away from the center of our storm but could be wrong. Is this a Shotwave on that front? Was it forecasted and what are the implications?

The crazy levels to which this event got overhyped are now starting to become somewhat clearer. Windy yes for many, very windy for some and indeed stormy for a few, but compared to many Autumn/ Winter storms of the past it's been nothing out of the ordinary to date and I expect little to change across the next 12-24hrs.

Aye, it was simply because it previously had a name. The storm which battered Scotland in May 2011 with 100mph wind was worse than this and didn't have half the coverage.

76 mph gust at lake vyrnwy and 49 mean earlier makes severe gales.

For early september this is the strongest storm I`ve seen, for trees in full leaf this is enough.

55 mean gusting to 82 max at capel curig, looks like Wales is the place to be if you want the highest wind speeds.

Winds are getting progressively stronger here, currently gusting 62 MPH, strongest so far today.

Average wind-speed at 35 MPH.

So far a typical windy day, nothing out of the ordinary. Perhaps unusual in light of the fact that the last few years have seen an abundance of calm weather.

If we can see 70 MPH then this storm will be significant, for here anyway.

Anyone know where the centre of this system is located now? We're suppose to be seeing our strongest winds in the coming few hours.

Winds would appear to be picking up here in Perthshire but I have yet to see any branches coming off any of the trees. The obs at Strathallan are showing gusts of 52mph. Interesting to see if this is the high winds predicted for the area starting.

Indeed MS, event of late May this year were far more significant and I'm pretty sure there were plenty of leaves on the trees at that time too. As you say, any previously named

system, especially one that attained full hurricane status is likely to get more coverage, but to say this one has been significantly overhyped (at least to date) is perfectly fair imo.
