I'm recording a slight fall in Hpa now, this suggests a tightening of gradient occuring. For those yorkshire folk, watch the look north news at 1:30 Their hedline at one pm basically said get ready for this evening!

I would say around 80 mate. The morning forecast said up to 80mph and inland 70+mph, judging by some of these gusts I wouldn't rule it out either..

I'm guessing it's location is pretty sheltered. I tend to use Drumalbin for wind reports for EK as we are higher than Glasgow and more on a par with Drumalbin for height and exposure (and sit approx halfway between the two)

speed of the gusts of wind is getting progressively higher here now

I was starting to get disappointed as the winds have been fairly gusty (but probably just below gale force) all morning, but not increased too much.

However in the last 15-20 minutes things have really started to pep up – just had a very strong, lengthy gust here in east Leeds. Still bright/ broken cloud – I wonder if any rain will come in to make it even more interesting?

No i think they got it bang on, Worst winds yet to come to you, plus track was hard to predict, i think you will see that they got the areas right but a little later than first expected. Remember that local conditions can vary from each other widely from difference in direction that wind comes from, so a strong breeze one side of a hillside can be a strong gale the other from one direction and vice versus if wind comes from other direction. Direction is determined by position of the low's centre

BBC London Weather just said Biggin HIll has had the strongest gusts in the region so far Right on my doorstep!

Manston gusting 47mph, Dover 54mph. Just about as expected along the coast.
